CHALLENGE FRIDAY | MOODBOARD | MELISSA VINING

Hi everyone, Melissa here and I’m so happy to be back with you sharing another layout!! It’s Challenge Friday, and this week we are working with a gorgeous Valentines Day inspired Moodboard created by Vicki Parker.  I used the beautiful exclusive January 2021 Hip Kits, and this is my first creation with them!!  I used a mix of products from the Main, Pocket Life and Embellishment Kits.

Here is the beautiful Moodboard.

I was inspired by the photo of the donuts, but decided to create a grid of hand cut and hand stitched hearts.

In order to create hearts I limited myself to three of the patterned papers from the kit with small repeating patterns.  This enabled me to embellish each one, which was a lot of fun!   I used die cut ephemera, puffy stickers, chipboard and the amazing wood veneer with gold detailing.  I also fussy cut a rainbow from one of the patterned papers.  As always I used lots of dimension to give movement to my page.

My photo is of a gift that my then 10 year old daughter came home to find at our front door on Valentines Day last year from a boy in her class.  I changed the photo to black and white to make it work with the colours in the kit.  But I also wanted to include the original photo in colour, so I made a card for hidden journaling and the extra photo.  I used on the Pocket Life Cards to write my journalling.

I used my scallop border much to create a border on the edge of the card for interest, and to help direct the reader of my scrapbook to the journaling and extra photo.  I avoided using too much dimension in the embellishing inside the card so it would lay somewhat flat.

The “Let Life Surprise You” title was perfect for my layout, as my daughter was certainly surprised by the gift.  I actually had a photo of her with it, but she seems to have deleted it from my iPhone!!

I added two die cut flower clusters on the top right and bottom left of my photo card to help draw the eye into the photo.  I love that these are pre-made and so easy and effective to use.

My final touch was to add spatters of black ink, and to doodle around the edge of my layout twice.  I had also doodled inside the photo card and I did this for consistency.  Here is my layout.

I created a process video which you can watch below.

I hope I inspired you to create a layout based on the Moodboard.  Make sure you head on over the Hip Kit Club Facebook Group to enter our competition, we’ll give you lots of love and you may even win a prize!!

Lots of love

Melissa xx
