September Mood Board Layout Ideas
Donna took the September mood board and ran with the parts that spoke to her – the warm florals, the embroidery floss, the handmade tassels, and that touch of black grounding everything. Instead of copying the board exactly, she zeroed in on the textures and built her own interpretation with die cuts, fussy-cut flowers, and a paper dreamcatcher that she invented on the fly.
Hello, HKC friends! It’s Donna here with my scrapbook layout inspired by this month’s beautiful mood board by the super talented, Elsie Robinson!

The colors, flowers, embroidery floss, tassels and touch of black from the cup were my inspiration for my layout.

I thought of making an embroidery hoop but ended up with a dreamcatcher sort instead. Cutting 3 pieces of circles from Paper 13 (Truly Grateful) and Genuine (Heritage), I used foam tape to stack them together. Then I tied pink and yellow embroidery floss to it.

I embellished with a mixture of fussy cut florals and die cuts from the flower pack.

These tassels made out of the 2 x 2 cut apart from Paper 14 are my fave detail of this layout. My first time to make some and it was so much fun I think you will see something more of these in my future projects.

You can watch the process video HERE how I made this layout.
Thanks for dropping by and I hope this inspired you to be creative today.
Happy crafting,

Techniques from This September Layout
- Build a dreamcatcher or embroidery hoop element by stacking three circular die cuts with foam tape between each layer. Thread embroidery floss through the gaps for that handcrafted look.
- Make your own tassels from 2×2 inch paper squares. Donna tried this for the first time on this page and said the process was addictive – cut thin strips almost to the top, roll, and glue.
- Fussy cut real flowers from patterned paper and mix them with die-cut florals. The slight difference in edge texture between hand-cut and machine-cut adds visual variety.
- Use foam tape to stack embellishments at different heights. Donna built three layers of dimension on her circular centerpiece to create genuine depth.
- Start with the mood board, but give yourself permission to improvise. Donna planned an embroidery hoop and ended up with a dreamcatcher – and it turned out better than the original idea.
