I am so excited to share this gorgeous layout tutorial from our incredibly talented designer, Anke Kramer! Anke created a stunning black and white layout with the most beautiful pink accents using the January 2026 Hip Kit Club kits, and you are going to love every single detail of this one. It is such a great reminder that sometimes stepping away from all the color and going classic black and white with just a pop of pink can create something truly breathtaking.
Want to create layouts like this? Our monthly kits include coordinated papers, embellishments, and supplies to bring your scrapbook pages to life.
In this tutorial, Anke walks us through her entire process from choosing her base paper to adding those perfect finishing touches. She uses pieces from the January 2026 Main Kit, the January 2026 Embellishment Kit, and the January 2026 Pocket Life Kit, along with some white acrylic paint for the most gorgeous paint splatters. Whether you are a seasoned scrapper or just getting started, Anke makes this process feel totally approachable and fun. Grab your kits and let’s dive in!
Step-by-Step Tutorial
Step 1: Prepare Your Background Paper
▶ Watch
Start by pulling out the striped “All Fun and Games” patterned paper from the January 2026 Main Kit. Cut it down to 10×10 inches, then adhere it to your layout base. This creates a classic, graphic foundation that works beautifully with a black and white color scheme.
Step 2: Place Your Photo
▶ Watch
Once your background paper is adhered, position and glue down your main photo. Getting your focal photo placed early helps you plan the rest of your embellishment arrangement around it before you commit anything permanently.
Step 3: Arrange Chipboard Frames and Die Cuts
▶ Watch
Pick out two chipboard frames from your Embellishment Kit along with die cuts that fit your black and white and pink color scheme. Arrange them around your photo to frame it, and fussy cut a butterfly from the “Let It All Go” patterned paper to tuck into your arrangement. Play with placement before adhering anything so you can adjust freely.
Step 4: Add White Paint Splatters
▶ Watch
Before gluing everything down, add white acrylic paint splatters across your layout using a paintbrush. Anke uses liquid acrylic paint, but you can also thin regular acrylic paint with a little water to get the same effect. This step adds wonderful texture and movement, so do it while pieces are still loose to avoid masking your embellishments.
Step 5: Fussy Cut Clouds and Butterflies from Pocket Life Kit
▶ Watch
Fussy cut a cloud and a butterfly from the January 2026 Pocket Life Kit papers and add them to your layout. These little fussy cut elements add a whimsical, handmade touch that really elevates the finished piece.
Step 6: Pierce Holes and Stitch Butterfly Trails
▶ Watch
Use a piercing tool to create small holes along your butterfly flight paths, then stitch through them to create the trailing thread lines. This stitching detail adds beautiful dimension and a sweet handcrafted feel to the layout.
Step 7: Add Your Title
▶ Watch
Spell out your title using the cardstock layered foam alphabet stickers from the Embellishment Kit. If you need a letter that does not come in pink, Anke’s clever tip is to simply trim a bit off another letter to reshape it – she cut a G to create the letter she needed.
Step 8: Finish with Puffy Stickers and Nuvo Drops
▶ Watch
Complete your layout by adding puffy stickers from your Embellishment Kit across the design for dimension, then finish with pink Nuvo drops to add tiny jewel-like details that tie your pink accent color together beautifully throughout the whole piece.
