Butterfly Wreath – Scrapbook Layout with Butterflies

Making a Wreath with Butterflies on a Scrapbook Page

A butterfly wreath turns a handful of die cuts and fussy-cut shapes into a circular focal point that pulls the whole layout together. Lorilei arranged hers around the edge of a photo, mixing die-cut butterflies from exclusive cut files with fussy-cut ones from Crate Paper patterned paper.

Hello Hip Kit Friends!

Lorilei here today sharing a pretty butterfly wreath layout!  I certainly have been dreaming of spring lately and the February 2018 Hip Kits go right along with that dream!  The colors are fresh and delightul.  I used one of the exclusive cut files of the butterflies and bugs.  I cut out only the butterflys and then I fussy cut a load of butterflies from the Crate Paper buttefly paper.  I used 3 standout butterflys from Crate Paper Flourish Standouts found in the February 2018 Hip Kit Embellishment Pak.  I layered the fussy cut and die cut butterflies around a circle and tucked my photo in on the right side.  I added the love chipboard from Pick Me Up for the finishing touch!

Building a Butterfly Wreath Like This One

  • Mix die-cut and fussy-cut butterflies for variety. Die cuts give you clean edges; fussy cuts from patterned paper add color and pattern.
  • Arrange the butterflies in a loose circle before gluing anything down. Lorilei overlapped and angled hers so the wreath looks organic, not stamped out.
  • Crate Paper Flourish Standouts gave her three pre-made dimensional butterflies to anchor the wreath. A few standout pieces save you from making everything from scratch.
  • Positioning the photo to one side of the wreath instead of dead center creates a more dynamic composition.
  • Paint splatters from the Hip Kit Color Kit fill gaps in the wreath and tie the wreath colors back to the background.
