Scrapping Small – Happy Heart | Tazhiana Gordon

Hello Hip Kit Friends and Happy Saturday! I have a bit of a treat for you today for those of you who enjoy scrapping small.

A little backstory about me – I didn’t really fall in love with scrapbooking and memory keeping until I discovered Traveler’s Notebooks. The small size was a lot more accessible than giant 12×12 layouts so it wasn’t as daunting and since it was still a square, I could scale down sketches or scale up my TN style layouts for the prime time. It was literally a perfect medium for me. Well fast forward a few years and I found myself firmly in love with 12×12 and making very little to no TN style pages and I actually missed it! This spread was a joy to make, really easy to put together, and the fun and bright January kits were the icing on the cake.

My trick to creating a TN layout is to make it out of the book! Sometimes books get chunky over time and it’s hard to work in them so I like to cut down a piece of paper to the size of the average TN spread – 8.5×8.25 – and work out of the notebook. I first cut down some cardstock from the Cardstock kit to use as my base since I had all this fun patterned paper to play with and then cut down a variety of Pinkfresh Everyday Musings papers to layer over top. My idea was to recreate my paper stack that I was building on the right side of the spread on the left side. This adds balance and keeps the page interesting!

Next, I printed my photo in black and white since there was already a riot of color on the page and went to work on embellishing. The PinkFresh Everyday Musings ephemera that was included in the Main Kit is too gorgeous for words and I had to stop myself from using up the whole ephemera pack on one page! That would be silly, and wouldn’t leave me much to work with for the rest of the month. I created two clusters for the top and bottom of my photo, each time layering a floral element, a label piece and a sentiment piece to balance out the page. I loved the way the pops of color looked against my black and white photo and colorful background.

Finally, for my title, I used the Pinkfresh Everyday Musings gold puffy stickers that were in the Main Kit. Happy Heart jumped right out at me and so that’s what I went with. To the left side into the right side, I added a sentiment piece from the Ephemera pack, and the last thing I did was add some puffy stickers from the Shimelle Head In The Clouds line.

I’m so happy with how this layout came out and I had the most fun playing with the TN size. The beauty of this layout is it can easily be scaled up to a 12×12 size if you like the design. I hope you give this a try and enjoy scrapping small!

Keep it crafty, friends.
