Welcome back to another Thursday where three of our Design Team members take the same product or theme and show their individual take on it. This week, it’s Cara, Laureen and Zinia who are going to show you lots of fantastic ways to use the buttons and chipboard from Crate Paper that came in your May Embellishment kit.
Hi planner girls! Today, I have lots of ideas for planner accessories using the chipboard and buttons. I’ve got loads of clips (’cause those are my favourite!) as well as a bookmark and charms. Let’s get to it.
Let’s start with the clips, shall we? Lots of layers and even a bit of glitter make these clips unique. To make the buttons clips, I backed two identical buttons and tied them together with the baker’s twine. I used hot glue to secure a paper clip between the buttons and also to add an enamel dot to the centre of the bow. To get better details you can watch the video at the end of my bit.
The charms were a lot of fun and really easy to do. I wanted them to hang down the heart-shaped holes in the centre of my Happy Planner discs, so I secured the baker’s twine with two buttons. One button on each top and bottom of the second disc up. Then, I tied and stuck buttons and small chipboard pieces to the twine. The video takes you step by step through this process.
Last, I’ve got this fun bookmark! I used the backing plastic from the buttons as the base of my bookmark, being transparent, it makes the bird look like it’s perched on top of the planner. I cut a square-ish U out of the plastic and simply added the chipboard pieces I wanted. A bit of baby powder on the back takes away the stickiness and you’ve got a quick and easy bookmark! Isn’t Caras project so awesome?! I am loving it!
I have a bit of a rainbow, color on color layout inspiration for you now 😉
I began by prepping my page with some gesso and then used the super awesome Color Kit and painted a rainbow onto the middle of my page.
After I had my stripes painted I sprinkled some watercolor in the matching color around and love the look of it!
I searched for a quote on Pinterest featuring the phrase “Happy Heart” and found the one I used for my page – I am loving the
message behind it so much!
Now Missy totally inspired the use of the stamps – I love how they complete my title but don’t cover up my coloring.
I simply stamped in Staz On ink and then colored over 😉
Next it came down to embellishing. I am a huge fan of color on color – especially when you have a rainbow going on.
I started by using the Chipboard florals from Crate Paper and built my page from there on – tucking smaller ephemera behind them or layering more chipboard on top.
I was also able to snug in three Crate Paper buttons – a teal, a pink and a yellow one found their way onto the layout.

Hello all! Today I’m back to share another layout with you using the gorgeous May 2017 kits.
Since it’s mixed media week I decided to try something different. I created a faux mixed media layout. I know many of you are intimidated with the whole mixed media concept and all the different products so I made a layout that has a mixed media look with almost no mixed media on it.
In a wider aspect, buttons and chipboard can be considered mixed media since they are different materials. It doesn’t really need to be paint and wet media. Using things like ribbon, trims, stitching and fabric could definitely count.
I used one of the Maggie Holmes papers as my background cause it had a mixed media look by itself. It really looks like you added some gesso or white paint.
For my title I picked a huge chipboard phrase and placed it in the middle of the page. From there I started clustering tons of gorgeous embellishments from the different kits until I was happy with the result.
To help my buttons blend in with the rest of the products, I placed them together with some of the enamel dots. This way they look like over-sized dots and the work beautifully together.
My last step was to actually add some paint splatters using the gorgeous Prima watercolors from the Color kit.
