Hello everyone! Jennifer here with a layout for Mixed Media Week. I used quite a few of the beautiful May Kits for this one – mostly so I could pick out all of the blue goodies. My theme this week was “Pick a color” and I chose to focus on the color blue. Reason for that: That beautiful dark blue watercolor from the Prima Marketing palette included in the May Color Kit.
I used Bazzill Marshmallow cardstock in white. This kind of cardstock doesn’t warp quite as quickly when used for watercoloring as lighter cardstock and you don’t need to use Gesso.
For my background I used a flowery stencil by Tim Holtz and the dark blue color from the Color Kit. I used a mostly dry flat brush to paint the color through the stencil. I just love the effect it gives to the backround. It looks a bit like printed fabric don’t you think?
I matted my photo on blue-toned patterned papers from the May Main Kit by Dear Lizzy and Shimelle.
I then used the exclusive die cuts and enamel dots from May Main Kit the and the exlusive puffy stickers from the May Embellishment Kit to embellish my layout. I mostly chose blue die cuts and stickers but added a bit of gold, too, for contrast.
I really had to stop myself from using all the blue embellishments. Both die cuts and puffy stickers are just too cute and I never can have enough flowers on my layouts.
The different shades of blue give the layout lots of interest despite it’s monochromatic color scheme. And the few flecks of gold I included add a bit of sparkle and shine.
Some splatters of gold and blue and a few enamel dots finished this layout. I really, really like how this turned out! Usually, I don’t use this much blue but I really need to change that.
Thanks for stopping by and I will see you next week with a new project.
xoxo Jennifer
