Envelope Pockets & DIY Embellishments

Scrapbook Envelope Pockets and DIY Embellishments

An envelope punch board is one of the most versatile tools in a scrapper's kit – Zinia used hers here to make colorful pockets sized to fit her layout, then cut the flaps off so each pocket stays open and easy to flip through. Paired with her DIY embellishments made from stenciled gel medium, this page has layers of interaction built right in.

Hello Hip Kits fans! It’s Zinia here to my last project using the February 2017 Hip Kits. I had so much fun using these kits and I created a bunch of different projects throughout the month but I’m really excited to start playing with the March kits as soon as possible.

This layout was pretty hard for me. My first couple of ideas didn’t really work out so it took some time and experimentation to get here. If you are curious about the whole process, you can watch the process video bellow:

I really wanted to use my envelope punch board to create some pockets and fill them with the beautiful Oh my Heart cut apart specialty paper that came in the Paper Ad-on Kit. I measured the cut apart pieces I wanted to use and I created envelops in the closest size. Then I cut off the top flap and turned them into pockets.

The embellishing part was much easier. I went for my go-to embellishment from this month’s kit, the butterflies. I also used a few florals from the Chasing Dreams sticker sheet that came in the Embellishment kit.

I also used the Color Kit to create some DIY embellishments. I mixed the AcriTonez with some heavy gel, spread them through the stencil and fussy cut them to create some lovely geometric hearts.

(During the photoshoot, my little assistant did a thorough check to make sure everything was good)

Before I go, I want to show you some more pages from my traveler’s notebook minibook for February.

In some spreads I tried to keep things very minimalistic. When there was an item I really loved, I didn’t want to stuff it on a busy page. I preferred using it on a simple spread so that it’s on the spotlight.

I really tried to implement as much stamping as possible. I really enjoy playing around with stamps in my traveler’s notebooks and this one is not exception. I absolutely adore the Oh my Heart stamp set that came in the Project Life kit.

I also used some interactive elements like this file folder to “hide” a goofy photo of my boyfriend and his valentine’s date.

When I’m working in my traveler’s notebook I always try to use the products that I wouldn’t normally use in my scrapbooking.  For example I don’t often use washi tape and tags on my 12×12 pages, so I made sure to include them in my TN and use them up in my lovely notebook spreads.

So these are my projects for today. I really hope you enjoyed them and you got inspired to create something with your February Hip Kits. Make sure to stop by the HKC Facebook page and the HKC Member Forum for even more inspiration.

Until next time, happy scrapping🙂

How Zinia Built Her Envelope Pockets

  • She set her envelope punch board to a custom size rather than a standard envelope measurement. Measure your layout first, then work backward to get pockets that sit flush.
  • Cutting the flaps off transforms sealed envelopes into open pockets. Fill them with specialty papers, tags, or extra photos for a mini album effect inside a full-size page.
  • Her DIY embellishments started with AcriTonez mixed into heavy gel medium, spread through a stencil onto cardstock. Once dry, she fussy-cut geometric hearts from the raised texture.
  • The traveler's notebook minibook paired with the layout uses the same kit papers but in a smaller format. Keeping some spreads minimal lets featured items breathe instead of competing for attention.
  • File folders tucked inside the layout conceal extra photos. Visitors discover them by lifting the tab – a simple interactive element that takes seconds to add.
