Hello friends, today I am so excited to share a gorgeous layout from Jana Eubank, who took on our National Scrapbook Day challenge using those adorable chipboard buttons from the March 2026 Hip Kits. Jana built her page around the Live Life and Dance It Out collection, and she found the most clever way to incorporate those bright, cheerful buttons right into the patterned paper itself. She used the circular Twirl and Spin paper as her focal point and treated the chipboard buttons like extra beads strung along the printed wires – such a fun, creative twist that completely elevates the design.
Want to create layouts like this? Our monthly kits include coordinated papers, embellishments, and supplies to bring your scrapbook pages to life.
Jana layered in pieces from across the March 2026 Main Kit, the March 2026 Pocket Life Kit, the March 2026 Cardstock Kit, and the March 2026 Color Kit to create a colorful, textured background for two photos of her son’s senior year. She built a checkerboard patchwork from four Pocket Life papers, misted the background with Lindy’s Stamp Gang Shimmer Magical in Unstoppable Aqua, added machine stitching for subtle texture, and tied tiny black twine bows through every single button. It is the kind of layout that feels like a warm hug and a celebration all at once, and I cannot wait to walk you through how she put it all together.
Step-by-Step Tutorial
Step 1: Fussy Cut the Circular Focal Paper
Start by pulling out the Twirl and Spin paper from the March 2026 Main Kit, which features a fun circular pattern with printed wires and beads. Use your scissors to carefully fussy cut around the outside of that circle so you have a clean, round focal piece ready to anchor your layout. This circle is going to become the home base for all of those chipboard buttons.
Step 2: Cut a Pocket Life Patchwork
Head over to the 6 by 8 Pocket Life Kit and pull out four different patterns – Jana used the green herringbone, the floral, the pink and coral check, and the blue and white polka dot. Cut three 2 by 2 inch squares from each pattern so you have twelve squares total. These will form a colorful checkerboard that fills the center of your circular focal piece.
Step 3: Ink and Adhere the Patchwork Squares
Ink the edges of each 2 by 2 square with light gray ink to give them definition, then adhere them in a grid with tape adhesive. Do not worry about making the squares perfectly straight – Jana intentionally placed hers a little skewampus for a haphazard, handmade feel. The slight imperfection is exactly what gives this patchwork its charm.
Step 4: Mist with Lindy’s Shimmer Magical
Grab the Lindy’s Stamp Gang Shimmer Magical in Unstoppable Aqua from the March 2026 Color Kit. Shake some of the powder into a small palette, add water to activate it, and sprinkle the shimmery mist all around the edges of where your circle will sit on the Be Bold black and white stripe paper. Set it aside to dry while you work on the rest of the layout.
Step 5: Add Machine Stitching for Texture
Once the misted background is dry, mat the Be Bold stripe paper onto black cardstock and run a straight stitch in white thread all the way around the edges. Then take your patchwork piece and stitch a zigzag in between every row of squares to anchor the patchwork together. The white thread keeps the stitching subtle while adding beautiful handmade texture.
Step 6: Layer Photos and Title with Foam Tape
Use foam tape to pop up the circular focal piece, your two matted photos, and the just have fun phrase cut from a Pocket Life 3 by 4 card. Jana matted her larger photo on the 80s Denim paper from the March 2026 Cardstock Kit and her smaller photo on green herringbone from the Pocket Life Kit. The foam tape gives everything dimension and lift.
Step 7: Build Floral Clusters and Add Icon Die Cuts
Pull purple and blue florals, leafy branches, butterflies, a bicycle, and the extraordinary phrase from the icon die cuts that come with the March kits. Arrange the florals in clusters around the photos for softness, place three butterflies for movement, and tuck the bicycle into the bottom left with the extraordinary phrase bridging across both photos. These touches add personality and tell the story of a senior year.
Step 8: Tie Bows on the Chipboard Buttons
Now for the star of the show – the chipboard buttons from the March 2026 Main Kit. Poke out the holes in each button, then thread black twine through and tie either a double knot or a small bow in the center. Scatter the buttons in between the printed beads on the circle, tuck a couple of larger ones next to the bicycle wheel, and add a few to the flower die cuts so the color and texture are dispersed across the whole page. Adhere them with glue dots so they stay put for years to come.
