Oh, I am so excited to share this tutorial from one of our amazing design team members, Jana Eubank! Jana put together the most joyful, texture-packed layout using the January 2026 Hip Kits and the Let’s Get Real collection – our exclusively designed collection that is only available at Hip Kit Club. She was inspired by a sweet pandemic memory of having all her kids home under one roof again, and she matched that happy story with the bright, energetic colors of this collection perfectly.
Want to create layouts like this? Our monthly kits include coordinated papers, embellishments, and supplies to bring your scrapbook pages to life.
What I love most about this tutorial is how Jana layers technique upon technique to build a page that feels full and dynamic without being overwhelming. She pulls out everything from a paper crimper (yes, the classic tool from way back!) to zigzag stitching to chipboard frames and puffy stickers. She uses the January 2026 Cardstock Kit, the January 2026 Main Kit patterned papers, the January 2026 Pocket Life Stamp Set, and the January 2026 Raffle Tickets Metal Die Set. Get ready to take some notes, because there are so many good ideas packed into this one!
Step-by-Step Tutorial
Step 1: Layer Your Background Cardstocks
Start by pulling two cardstocks from the January 2026 Cardstock Kit and layering them together as your background. Jana chose the bright blue cardstock paired with the yellow polka dot B-side pattern. One of the great things about Hip Kit Club cardstocks is that every sheet has a coordinating B-side pattern that plays well with everything else in the kit, so don’t overlook that backside when you are planning your pages.
Step 2: Plan Your Photo Mats and Focal Point
Cut a 7.5-inch square section of the numbers patterned paper from the January 2026 Main Kit and position it on your background. Jana placed her photo on the lower right of that square and planned to build her embellishment cluster on the left. She mats her photo with teal cardstock, then adds a layer of the pink brushstroke cardstock, and eventually tucks a purple layer behind the whole stack – cutting the right end of that purple layer into a banner shape for extra visual interest.
Step 3: Crimp Your Border Strip for Texture
Run your blue and black border strip through a paper crimper before adhering it to the page. Jana uses this strip to anchor her title, and the crimping adds a beautiful textured pattern that gives the strip so much more personality than leaving it flat. If you have an old paper crimper sitting in a drawer somewhere, this is your sign to pull it out – it is one of those tools that adds instant handmade charm to any page.
Step 4: Die Cut Layered Raffle Ticket Pieces
Use the January 2026 Raffle Tickets Metal Die Set to cut both the background strip piece and the smaller layering piece that sits on top. Jana cuts the layering piece from blue cardstock so it coordinates with her color scheme and stacks it right on top of the base ticket shape. This die set is one Jana calls a must-have because the layered pieces create such a fun dimensional feel, and there are so many shapes in the set you can use over and over again.
Step 5: Stack Chipboard Frames Around Your Title
Layer two oval chipboard frames (teal and red) along with an orange circle chipboard frame in a loose, casual arrangement around your title element. Jana places her title on the star circle die cut with rainbow-colored stars first, then layers the chipboard frames around it in a slightly haphazard way to make the cluster feel lively and dynamic. The mix of oval and circle shapes adds personality and keeps things from looking too rigid or symmetrical.
Step 6: Sprinkle Star Die Cuts Down the Page
Cut star shapes from the icon star die cut pack and scatter them in a cascading line down the page near the title cluster. Jana adds puffy circle stickers to the center of each star – a teal butterfly on one, a floral circle on another, and a tiny orange sequin circle on the third – to give each star its own little focal point. This sprinkling of stars ties the title cluster to the lower part of the page and creates a sense of movement.
Step 7: Stitch Through Your Layered Strips
Layer a branding strip cut from the patterned paper together with a rainbow scallop border from the icon die cut pack, then run them through your sewing machine using a zigzag stitch to connect them. Jana also cuts a thin strip of the purple star patterned paper to repeat the purple color from the photo mat over on the left side of the page, straight-stitching through that as well. She zigzag stitches through the crimped border strip under the title too, going right up to where the title is adhered.
Step 8: Finish with Gems, Puffy Stars, and Stamped Details
Sprinkle clear gems from your stash around the star die cuts and repeat them down in the lower right corner for a consistent sparkle element across the page. Jana also adds puffy star stickers near the journaling area and uses the January 2026 Pocket Life Stamp Set to stamp a phrase onto a tab and a circle shape that she layers up with a punched starburst and a purple circle label. These small finishing touches – the gems, the puffy stickers, and the stamped accents – are what bring the whole page together and give it that polished, layered look.
