Hello! I am excited to share this layout today for Fathers’s Day and featuring the May 2023 Hip Kits! I love the beautiful colors in the kits and loved featuring my husband’s favorite color, orange, on this layout! I have a link to the full process video below!

The technique I am highlighting today is fussy cutting! I love cutting small parts and embellishments out of patterned paper to feature on a layout. For this layout, I started by cutting out the floral border. This already had a white center, but I wanted to be able to bend and fold up all the flowers and leaves, so I cut away the white middle and attached it to a piece of mixed media cardstock.

I also cut apart the hexagons from another patterned paper to create a honeycomb look on the page. I cut out each hexagon and distressed the edges of each one. I arranged these on the top right and bottom left of the photos. The title I created to honor my sweet husband and what a great dad he is plays into the honeycomb and bee theme! “Busy ‘Bee’ing a Great Daddy” is a perfect way to describe this man! I found a bee from the September 2022 Hip Kit and added it to the top left of my photos to complete the theme.

Behind the hexagons and photos, I used Catherine Pooler’s Tiki Torch Ink and Shimmerz Inklings in Bahama Mama, both from previous Color Kits. This acted as the foundation that tied all of my elements together.

I love how all of the colors in the May kits work so well together and could be used for a wide variety of topics. Even though these aren’t traditionally masculine colors, they capture this memory of the photos perfectly! And I always love to push the limits with color and what people think they should and shouldn’t be used for!

The ephemera and bits and pieces from the kits finished off this layout perfectly!
