LET’S CREATE WITH INK | SARAH MILLERHOUSE | APRIL HIP KITS

Hello! I am excited to share my new layout with you today with a technique focus of using inks on the background! I have a link to the full process video at the end of this post.

To start this layout, I grabbed a sheet of mixed media cardstock and all of the beautiful Catherine Pooler inks we have received in the February, March, and April Hip Kits. I used the ink pads to add the color straight to the background by lightly kissing each one to the paper. I put them on in rainbow order, and I started each row with the color that I left off on in the row before. After I completed each row, I added a touch of water to each color block and dabbed up the excess ink and water with a paper towel. This gave me the blended, faded look on the background.

Just below the center of the layout, I added two strips of torn paper using patterned paper from the April Main Kit. I also added two layers of patterned paper as photo mats behind my sweet photo. I fussy cut two tags from one of the patterned papers and layered on two of the chipboard frames behind the photo.

I added floral clusters to the top right and bottom left of my photo. The beautiful floral ephemera in the kits made this step super easy! I bent up the edges of the flowers and the leaves. Below the floral cluster at the bottom, I used two of the ink pads and some water to add just a touch of color behind the cluster. I also added some Nuvo drops from a past Color Kit and Pops of Color from my stash to the centers of the flowers and around the clusters.

Across the middle, I added hand-stitching to break up the background from the patterned paper. I also added my title using the chipboard alphas and super cute orange letters found in the April kits! To finish it up, I added embroidery thread to the tags.
