APRIL MOODBOARD | Morag Cutts

Spring Color Palettes and the April Moodboard

When the Hip Kit Club moodboard leans into bright spring colors, it can push you out of your usual palette. That is exactly what happened for Morag here – the April moodboard pulled her toward bolder, more saturated choices than she would normally reach for.

Hi friend. Spring is finally making an appearance here in the UK so the April Moodboard is a perfect starting point for a layout.  The pretty images have inspired me to use brighter colours for my design.

I fell in love with this background paper in the March main kit. It is so fun and bright.  I had the perfect photos which pick up on the colours and the energy of the paper.

So that my photos didn’t get ‘lost’ on a busy background, I mounted the small photos onto black cardstock.  I love how they pop.

To add more depth and interest, I layered  patterned papers including a paper with a black background to bring the black through the layout.  Although all the patterns I chose are quite busy and striking, I think they work together so well.

I love the Pink Fresh Studio pockets in the embellishment kit.  I’ve tucked one behind the photo cluster so I can add journaling and a little note.

The bottom cluster has chipboard pieces from Simple Stories, Life in Bloom (Embellishment Kit).  To add drama, I die-cut the floral heart using the Hip Kit Metal die.  Have you tried the Hip Kit dies?  They are so sturdy and cut through your cardstock like butter!

I added chipboard frames and chipboard pieces around the photo to finish off.

Ideas from This April Moodboard Layout

  • Mounting small photos on black cardstock creates contrast that makes them pop against a busy patterned background.
  • Morag tucked a Pink Fresh Studio pocket behind her photo cluster – a smart way to add hidden journaling without cluttering the design.
  • Chipboard pieces from Simple Stories add dimension and help break up flat layered paper.
  • A floral heart die cut from the Hip Kit Club metal die gives the page a bold focal point that ties into the spring theme.
  • Instead of matching the moodboard exactly, Morag used it as a starting direction and let the kit supplies guide the rest.
