WEEKLY CHALLENGE FRIDAY | REBECCA MOORE | DECEMBER 2021 HIP KITS

Hi everyone, Rebecca with you today sharing my take on the January sketch, using the lovely December 2021 Hip Kits.

I decided to represent the circles on the sketch using rosettes.  I made two larger rosettes from one of the patterned papers from the December Main Kit, and two smaller ones from one of the coloured cardstocks from the December Cardstock Kit. I loved how these two colours looked together and so this lead me to the decision to create a monochromatic layout.

Putting 6 photos on a layout is way out of my comfort zone – but I wasn’t going to let that stop me using the sketch – I just had to find a way to make it work for me! I selected one of the longer Pocket Life cards in a similar colour to my smaller rosettes and used that as a base to layer my three photos on. I’ve printed the same photo 3 times in black and white – it’s of my little man on New Years Day baking his favourite cupcakes – a great way to see in the New Year!

Before sticking everything down, I added some ink to my background. I used one of the Catherine Pooler Ink Pads from the November Color Kit, and a blending brush. I didn’t want a lot of colour, just a base or a ‘glow’ for my rosettes and photos to sit on, and some subtle splatters.

I love that there are stars on the sketch – I’m a sucker for stars! I used the black and white polkadot patterned paper and made some 3D stars. These are really simple to make and along with the rosettes, add lots of dimension to a page. I cut the stars on my silhouette machine and then used the aperture as a stencil with the ink pad to add some stars to my background too.

On the sketch, the title is on the bottom right corner, but I’ve extended mine to the top left corner too. I used the alphas from the December Main Kit for the ‘2022’ and the smaller alphas from the December Pocket Life Kit for the ‘Bring it On’ and created my title along the curves of the rosettes.

I then moved on to embellishing my layout. I didn’t want to add too much, so I focused on the smaller elements in the kits. I added some puffy stickers from the Pocket Life Kit and some Chipboard Stickers from the Embellishment Kit – sticking to the blue and minty green tones.

I finished the layout off with some sparkle! I used the Nuvo Glitter Drops from the December Color Kit and added a few drops here and there. I am totally in love with this product and I can fast see it becoming a favourite of mine!

I hope this layout has given you some inspiration, and shown that you don’t have to copy a sketch directly – you can take elements from it that appeal to you and use it as a starting point! Don’t forget that you could win a $10 gift card to spend on the Hip Kit Website if you enter our weekly challenge. To play along you need to upload your layout to the correct thread in our Facebook Group.

If you’d like to watch this layout come together, there is a process video up on my YouTube channel here: https://youtu.be/3Rb_N7PeNno
