Hello everyone, its Melissa here and I’m so happy to be back here sharing another layout with you!! I’m using the gorgeous Main Kit from the January 2021 Hip Kits, and I adore all of the beautiful exclusive products from the ‘Dream Big’ collection. My assignment today is to use border punches and stitching. I own three border punches and I’ve had them for a very long time. I have a scallop, lace flower and spiral notebook punch, and I still use them occasionally – especially the scallop.
My photo is of my third child Brielle jumping on a trampoline at our local indoor trampoline park. I managed to capture her mid air, and I wanted my layout to reflect this movement. I cut my borders with my three border punches, and predominantly used papers with small repeating patterns so as not to compete with the embellishments.
I machine stitched a line through all of the paper strips with thread in the corresponding colours before I glued them down. I left my thread long, tanged and messy to add to the movement and to reflect the careless abandon of my photo. I love how this looks and will definitely do it again!
I fussy cut several flowers and leaves from ‘Floral Fantasy’, they are so adorable and I love how they look layered. I layered them above, below and on my photo. I also fussy cut rainbows from ‘Dare to Dream’.
The gorgeous chipboard rainbow was perfect to link the photo and paper strips to my title. I popped it up on extra dimension to make it a main feature on my page. I stuck a small yellow chipboard heart on it for cuteness!!
When it came to my title I actually asked Brielle whether she liked “Jump for Joy”, and she did. I love getting my kids input into their pages. The butterfly is also on the page because she asked for it!!
Journalling the story behind the photo is always important to me. I had to record that we were at a birthday party when I captured this photo. To be honest I don’t particularly love my handwriting, but its a part of me and I like to think that this will be important to my kids and even grandkids in the future.
Here is another look at my layout, and I hope I’ve inspired you to dig into your stash for your border punches.
I made a process video which you can watch below. I love chatting about my process, so if want to know more please come and watch.
Thanks so much for being here with me today. Remember to subscribe so you don’t miss out on any of the beautiful kits!
