Hi everyone, it’s Kate @adoreandmorecreate and I am super excited to be on the blog this week with a challenge that made me step outside of my comfort zone but one that I am glad I did as I am thrilled with the outcome! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and that Santa brought you all of the crafty supplies your heart desires! For this challenge I had to create a dimensional layout with the negative space from a cut file. I chose to do this in two ways, one with the tree cut files and the other with the word ‘Our’. I was most inspired by the cute tree cut files and had an idea to make a shaker pocket. This layout was really fun to make and was made using the simply stunning November 2020 Hipkits which you can find here:

I started by cutting out the cut files on some plain white cardstock. I knew I wanted to paint some of the negative space from the cut files so I could pop this up on craft foam to add some dimension and colour so I grabbed the gorgeous Nuvo Shimmer Powder in Jade Fountain and painted this onto the title piece and a few of the cut outs from the second tree. I have to say this shimmer powder is amazing! It gives such an amazing iridescent multi colour sheen and looks like you have layered lots of different paints. This came in the colour kit this month.
Then for the fun part, I couldn’t resist using the beautiful sequins included in the November kit and wondered how I would incorporate these into this layout. Then I thought a shaker pocket would be perfect! Believe it or not, I have never made a shaker pocket…. How can I even call myself a scrapbooker?! It was surprisingly easy to make. I didn’t have any acetate so I improvised with an album page protector, I traced the section of tree I wanted to make the pocket for, carefully cut this out and stitched the edges closed with my sewing machine.
I cut the rest of the sections of the tree out of patterned paper and frosted the edges with some of the Nuvo Moonstone Shimmer Paste which was also included in the colour kit. It really gives such a pretty dimensional effect that it’s hard not to completely cover each project in it… I popped these up on some craft foam too.
I also popped the word ‘Our’ up on craft foam which looks amazing in real life, the dimension and the shimmer really adds to the layout. I finished with some gorgeous embellishments clusters, once again you really are spoilt for choice with this kit so I spent a good happy half an hour choosing which ones I wanted to use.
There is a process video available for this layout which can be found here:
I had great fun making this project, I would love to see your projects using the negative spaces of cut files to add dimension please let me know in the comments where I can swoon over your works!
Thanks so much for stopping by and happy crafting!
