DIY Project | Patterned Papers | Katie O’Sullivan

Hi everyone! It’s Kate and I am super excited to be back up on the blog. This time with a project I haven’t done before… This week I chose to do a DIY project and my prompt was ‘patterned papers’ so I had a long think about what I wanted to do. I was most inspired by the gorgeous 12 x 12 sheet of tags by Simple Stories ‘Cozy’ Collection so I decided to make some custom embellishments to use on my projects. This was a super fun project to do and I love how they turned out. I used the October 2020 Hipkits to make this project which can be found here:

I started by choosing the tags that I wanted to embellish and then choosing some gorgeous patterned papers to make my own tags out of. For the tags that I made myself I just used one of the precut tags as a template and cut the patterned paper to the same size. I used a single punch hole punch to cut the loop hole and added a hole reinforcer around each one to give it a more ‘tag-like’ feel.

For three of the tags I knew I wanted to make some large number icons but rather than use a cutfile I decided to hand draw each number onto the Kraft coloured cardstock we got in the cardstock kit and cut these out.

Now for the fun part! I pulled out all of the pretty embellishments pieces and spent a leisurely hour or so piecing my favourite embellishment pieces together to make the perfect tags.

I also did a lot of fussy cutting with the pattern paper, I cut lots of tiny pink hearts and stuck these across most tags to create a theme. I am also a fan of banner shapes so I cut lots of these out too!

I had fun doing this project and would love to hear from you in the comments, let me know if you have done something similar and how it turned out.

Thanks so much for stopping by, Happy Crafting!
