Hello friends and welcome to my first project for this term of the Hip Kit Club Design Team! I was super inspired by the complementary colors of blue and orange in the Main Kit this month and so I chose to let that direct my layout.
I started by using one of the exclusive cut files and cut it twice using both one of the patterned papers in the kit and white cardstock. Next, I pulled out a few Distress Oxide inks in coordinating colors and blended the inks over the letters in a circular motion to reproduce the kind of splotchy feel of the paper I used. Finally, I glued the two layers on top of each other and offset them a bit so that the patterned paper was still visible behind my ink blended layer.
Next, I went to work on my background by using the same ink colors and applying them using a scrap of acetate and some water. I love that fun and messy effect this technique gives a background. Then I chose to mat my photo of my brother in law and my nephew on a few sheets of patterned paper from the kit in the same colors. I love how this repeated scheme ties the whole layout together and how punchy and bright the complementary colors are.
Finally, I went to work on embellishing using the paper pieces in the kit. I created a few clusters around my photo and then glued the whole thing to the page. Next, I glued my title down and added a secondary title while popping a few elements up on foam tape. I chose to distress the edges of my layout and add a swatch of patterned paper for added color and texure. Finally, I pulled out the chipboard stickers and added a few stars and flowers around my photo for height and dimension.
The icing on the cake was a few drops of the Nuvo crystal drops included in the kit and that was the whole layout finished. I hope you enjoyed this playtime with the Main Kit and it inspired you to pull out your own supplies and make something fun!
