Hello Hip Kit Friends! Oxana is here and I can’t wait to share what I created for today’s sketch challenge. The main heroine of my page is my niece. At the beginning of the work, strengthen the photo with cardboard and add a white frame. The idea of the page is that the background will be bright, but not distract from the photo itself. I want to make the background look like a childish laid-back drawing. I liked the idea of the butterfly on the background of our sketch and the accents throughout the page with them. In this project i used the March Kits and watercolors.
First, make a background. To do this, draw a contour of the butterfly with a pencil, and fill the four wings with different colors. I chose the colors: light pink, purple, light green and blue. I forgot to apply a transparent gesso before applying watercolors, so the wet technique for beautiful color mixing will not work. Since this cardstock immediately absorbs all moisture. But we work dry and I really like the result. Using a white gesso or white acrylic with a dry brush, gently paint over the edges of the butterfly and a bit of the inside to drown out the bright color and clear edges.
The whole process of creating mixed media pages is like a game, it is always exciting, you are looking for some kind of harmony. And the final result can never be predicted. On the sketch, we see chaotic lines behind the butterfly, so I decided to draw streaks on our butterfly. Next add an outline. While the result suits me.
I placed the photo according to the sketch in the middle, add the title and added decor, journal. In the end, I decided that a clear outline is better to blur. Again, with the help of a white gesso, color the edges and stretch them. Of course, do not forget about the splashes. In addition to multi-colored, add black splashes using black gesso or gouache.
At the very end of the video process i didn’t film the final touches. But again I decided to extinguish the bright outline with the white gesso a little. On the lower wings of the butterfly, mixing watercolor with gesso, added a little color in dry technic. This process of obtaining the desired result may be delayed, but it is very relaxing and has an anti-stress effect.
