Hey friends, it’s Elsie here with a Mixed Media Monday layout made with theApril 2020 kits. My challenge for today was ‘anything goes’, so I grabbed the Prima watercolours in this month’s Colour Kit and started painting!
These watercolours are seriously divine, and you can get a very classic and beautiful watercolour look with them, so I used that to my advantage. I was inspired by all of the ‘sweet’ embellishments/papers in the kits and decided to paint some strawberries.
Even if you have very little skill in painting, these are so simple to recreate. All I did was use the ‘Blush’ colour to paint a fat heart, and if your ‘heart’ becomes a little wonky thats perfect, since it will give some variety and realism to the strawberries! I then used the ‘Lucky’ colour and quickly swiped the paint from the top of the heart, to create the strawberry stems. If your paint is still wet, the green will bleed into the pink and you’ll get some awesome texture.
I painted the strawberries in a variety of sizes and even mixed some of the ‘Honey’ colour in with the green to create stems with that are more lime green.
To finish I used a white gel pen to add the seeds and fussy-cut them out to use as embellishments on my page.
To go with the strawberry theme, I decided to paper-piece together a simple jam jar using the Pebbles ‘Nesting’ paper. I used a Maggie Holmes ‘Sweet Story’ ephemera die-cut (Main Kit) as the jar’s label and added a shiny gold bow (from the Embellishment Kit).
For some whimsical background detail, I created some giant red splats using the Pebbles ‘Blushing Blooms’ paper. And finally for my title I combined the ‘Sweet Pea’ thickers (Main Kit) with a phrase from the Sweet Story cardstock stickers (Pocket Life Kit) to spell out ‘you are my jam!’, since I can’t resist a punny title!
Thanks for stopping by, I hope you’re inspired to have a go at painting with the watercolours in this month’s Colour Kit!
