Hi everyone, Niki here with you today with a new layout for Mixed Media Monday! My assignment today was to create a rainbow. There was a rainbow on one of the beautiful Pinkfresh Studio papers and I was tempted to use that, but I went in a totally different direction and decided to mix my Lindy’s Magicals with white acrylic paint and create stripes on my background instead. There is a process video at the end of this blog post so you can see exactly how I did everything. I have used the January kits for this layout and also lots of Lindy’s Magicals from past Color Kits (listed below).
I was inspired by the beautiful striped Pinkfresh Studio paper and thought I would attempt to mix my paint to match the colours. To begin with I cut the hearts background cut file from that paper. I adapted the cut file slightly to make it have less rows. I did this with my knife tool in Silhouette Studio. I also cut a white piece the same size but with the hearts filled in, so I could back fill the entire cut file with white card.
To mix my paint colours I had to dig deep into my past Color Kits. I mixed tiny amounts of the powders with white acrylic paint. The Lindy’s Magicals are super-intense and therefore the colours can be extremely vibrant but I was trying to create pastel colours so I had to go very easy on the amount of powder I used. The colours I’ve used are:
Tweedle Dee Denim (Flat), Azure Sea Asters, Merry Go Round Green (from the January Color Kit), Plumeria Pink (Flat, and also from the January Color Kit), Pink Ladies Pink (Flat), Hottie Patottie Hot Pink, Golden Sleigh Bells, and Summer Lovin’ Fun (Flat.) All these colours are from past Color Kits. I also used a couple of the Lindy’s Starburst Sprays also from past Color Kits to get the exact colours I wanted. I’m so happy with how the colours turned out!
Once my acrylic paint colours were dry, I stitched through each colour three times with white thread on my sweing machine. I varied the lengths of each row so that I didn’t have a straight edge at the top or bottom of my colour block. I backed the cut file with white card and then stuck the cut file ontop of my painted area.
I then embellished the layout in a colour on colour fashion. I had to limit myself with my embellishments so as to not cover up too much of my delicious background. I added black & white strips to the top and bottom of the layout and also backed my photo with that fabulous Heidi Swapp glitter tape.
Thank you so much for joining me today. I hope you enjoyed my layout. Take a look at the process video below too. Happy scrapping xxx
