Stay Awhile | Jinny Newlin

Morning, y’all!  It’s Jinny here on this Mixed Media Monday with an assignment to showcase a highlight from 2019.  My family had so many highlights from last year, that it was super hard for me to pick just one.  However, the kit, that I was using to showcase my highlight, limited me somewhat; being as we don’t see a lot of snow here in the desert.  So, I chose to scrap the start of our family camping trip to Fort Davis State Park this past September.  It was so relaxing to get away from all the busyness of the city and just soak in the quiet sunshine.  I’ve used the December 2019 Main Kit, Paper Kit, & Embellishment Kit to get the job done.  Enjoy!

It’s difficult to tell from the way the sunshine reflected off my page; but I used the Heidi Swapp, Honey & Spice, embossed, white cardstock from the Main Kit as my foundation.  (You can catch a few glimpses of the embossing in the shadows.)  So, in order to add my watercolor and Oom Pah Pah Pink Magical Shaker (from the November 2019 Color Kit) puddles, I needed to add white gesso to the background.  I then Cameo-cut the Twig Wreath Cut File from the Paysage print; adhered it in its present location; and splattered everything with the same watercolors and Magical Shaker powder from above, as well as Pure Black and Titanium White, acrylic paints.  That set the stage for my photos, which were matted with white cardstock and backed with a little cheesecloth for texture.  To the bottom right of the photos themselves, I added a cluster of those fabulous Floral Die Cuts, popped up with foam tape and embellished with a So Frosty Flair Button; hand-cut, from the Foil Star Cardstock, stars; length of white string, tied in a bow; Snowflake Chipboard Sticker; and Chill Foil Accent Thickers branches and trees.

One of the latter was further embellished with a So Frosty Paper Die-Cut duo.

A Polaroid Die-Cut journaling embellishment was used for just that; reads, A place to stretch our legs & have a picnic was the perfect welcome

and draws the eye into a secondary Floral Die-Cut cluster.  This one was treated in much the same way as the first with everything being popped up with foam tape and embellished with the same Chill Foil Accent Thickers branches and hand-cut Foil Stars.

It also was dressed up with a So Frosty Paper Die Cut camera, whose lens was given a little shine with Glossy Accents.

A couple of So Frosty Die-Cut phrases…

take us to the “STAY AWHILE” title, which was created from Chill Foil Accent Phrase Thickers and Rose Puffy Letter Thickers.

A lone Snowflake Chipboard Sticker star (found below my journaling); trio of Vellum Stars; Polaroid Die-Cut tab, stapled to the top photo; handful of Crystal Prima Embellishments, scattered throughout; and Polaroid Die-Cut “Date:” pennant complete the look.
