Upcycled Christmas Decor Frames | Niki Rowland

Upcycled Decor Christmas Niki Rowland Hip Kit Club November 2019

Hey there everyone, this is Niki and I have some Christmas Decor projects to share today. My assignment was to create Christmas Decor so I opted to go for upcycling some old frames. There is a process video for these frames at the end of this blog post if you’d like to see how I made them.

I have several old shadow boxes that I used to use for layouts but I don’t use them anymore so they are all just in a pile on my craft room floor! So I have used one to create a giant shaker pocket! I bought a set if jingle bells for £5 for the inside of my frame and I cut a vinyl decal that says ‘Jingle all the Way’. I cut the decal from black glittery vinyl and applied the decal to the front of the glass.

I then embellished the inside of the frame. I just used white cardstock as my background and then I added lots of beautiful flower die cuts from the November Embellishment kit. I created three areas, carefully paying attention to where the decal would sit and the jingle bells too.

I added some other ephemera, some puffy stickers and some silver thread. I also added  wood veneer holly leaves and some splatters of paint using the Lindy’s powders from the November Color Kit. I absolutely LOVE how this Jingle All the Way frame turned out and I’ so pleased my shadow box frame is now fulfilling it’s potential instead of sitting on my floor!

I was planning to use another shadow box frame but I saw this green frame at our school Fayre last week. It’s framed print and was being sold for 50p. I immediatly thought of my Christmas Decor assignment and took it home with me! The perspex was badly scratched so I through that out and have just got the print open instead.

I decorated this frame with origami stars. I’ve used three patterned papers from the November Main kitand cut two pieces to 6×6″ and the other to 4×4″. I folded these three pieces into stars using origami instructions.

With my stars made I placed them onto the frame and then built up clusters to go with them. I used flowers, Santa, stockings and a penguin, all die cuts from the November kits. I arranged them and stuck them in place together with gold thread.

I extended my clusters a little by adding small stickers. I wanted to add splatters too but the paper the print was on was shiny and I wasn’t sure the paint would dry so I had to resist.

Thank you so much for joining me today. I really hope you have enjoyed these two upcycled Christmas frames! I had such fun making them and love the way they turned out.

There is a process video that can be viewed below. Happy scrapping xxx
