Memories – sketch challenge | Vicki Parker

Hi everyone, it’s Vicki here today with my take on this week’s fabulous sketch by Anke which you can see below using the October Hip Kits. I had an added assignment to use punches and stitching.

Want to create layouts like this? Our monthly kits include coordinated papers, embellishments, and supplies to bring your scrapbook pages to life.

I started by using the Lindy’s Starburst Sprays from the October Colour Kit as a mixed media base in a similar way to the background of the sketch. I used the Bougainvillea Fuchsia and Sweet Violet Purple Teal with a mix of both for the middle strip.

I also added some splatters in coordinating colours to add a bit of extra interest to the background. I then pulled out my notepaper punch and punched some pink/purple papers to make some strips to add beneath the photos. This added plenty of texture to the page and a great pop of colour.

I wanted to do some stitching too, but unfortunately, my sewing machine is packed for our move, so I couldn’t. I improvised by adding some faux stitching with a white gel pen on the top strip – it’s very subtle, but a great way to add stitching if you are short of time or don’t have a sewing machine.

I stamped out some leaves using the exclusive stamp set in the embellishment kit and painted them with the Lindy’s using all three colours – the two I previously mentioned and the Grab a Guy Gold. I added these in with an exclusive die cut from the main kit plus some acetate leaves also from the embellishment kit at each end of the punched strips.

I also added a fox head from the cardstock die cuts in the colour kit which I painted using a mix of the pink and gold Lindy’s Starburst sprays. The title is from this pack too and I decided to leave it white as a good contrast agains the bright colours in the layout. I finished by building a cluster on the top left with some of the cardstock stickers in the embellishment kit and some tags cut from a pocket life card.

I love how this turned out – I hope you enjoyed hearing about my process. Until next time…
