Sketch Friday with Elsie Robinson

Hey friends! It’s Elsie here with my layout based on this week’s sketch. I used the August 2019 kits to create this page.elsie-sep6-layout-1.jpg

I love working with sketches for two reasons… Sketches are such a helpful jumping off points if you’re in a bit of a creative rut, and secondly, they also encourage you to create designs which you would never have attempted otherwise! This week’s sketch was definitely a super inspiring one for me!

Much like the sketch dictates, I created a central vertical design. And working with this week’s Fall theme, I had the idea to create an Autumnal page with falling leaves as the main design element. I used a lot of leaf die-cuts from the Pink Paislee floral ephemera pack in the Embellishment kit, which I arranged down my page from yellow, to orange, to pink, to purple and to blue.

Although the sketch only has one picture, I decided to use two. I used some of the Pretty Little Studio frame die-cuts (from the Main Kit) to frame my photos. I printed my photos in black and white, so they would stand out amongst all of the colour!

I embellished with the tone-on-tone technique, which creates a very layered look. The Truly Grateful phrase thickers (from the Main kit) were so useful when embellishing this layout. Not only did I use the orange phrase ‘Rise & Shine’ as my title, but all of the extra dot, star and heart stickers were the perfect embellishment to use in spaces where I needed a pop of colour.

Finally, the sketch also has some mixed media work on the background, but instead I used the watercolour swatch Pretty Little Studio clear stickers (from the Embellishment kit) to add some splotches of colour on my background!
