Hi there! It’s Krystal, and I’m back with another layout inspired by the weekly sketch! This time I’m working in a traveler’s notebook insert and basing my layout on the adorable sketch below, designed by Ashley. There’s also a recipe this week: a sprinkle of flowers, a dash of hearts, a splattering of charms, and flavor with a smidge of acetate.
To make my page, I started with the circle background. Since I’m working in a smaller format and because my page needs to have a break in the middle, I decided to make my circles solid instead of sketchy. I grabbed all of the papers in the April Main Kit that were in blue tones, since those are the ones that coordinated best with my photo. Then I used an old circle template and drew circles of various sizes and cut them out by hand.
I then began layering the circles, offsetting them from each other to give the background that wonky circle look that’s in the sketch. Once I had them the way I liked them, I used my paper trimmer to cut the whole thing in half so that I could add it to the page without it keeping the notebook from closing. I used a good strong glue to add the layers to the notebook. Once I had my background in place, it was time to add my photo. I matted it on one of the papers I used for my background and placed it according to the sketch.
To embellish the page, I decided to stick with circles instead of the stars that are in the sketch. I used a few different sized punches to punch circles from the same blue-toned papers and created two clusters: one at the top left corner of my photo and one at the bottom right corner of the page, just as the sketch shows. I added some of the die cuts from the Horizon ephemera pack from the April Main Kit around my photo, and included a chipboard heart from the Horizon Phrase & Icon Thickers as well – my dash of hearts.
For my title, I chose the blue and teal letters from the Hip Kit Club exclusive acetate alpha – my smidge of acetate. I used a Xyron sticker maker to add adhesive to the backs of the letters and adhered them to the top left corner of my spread, since there wasn’t space on the left side where the original sketch’s title lived. I also used some of the Hip Kit Club exclusive puffy alphas that were part of the April Pocket Life Kit to finish my title. These alphas are the perfect size for traveler’s notebook spreads!
In the bottom right cluster, I added a few pieces from the Horizon floral die cuts – my sprinkle of flowers – and a sticker from the Dear Lizzy It’s All Good sticker sheet, both from the April Embellishment Kit, as well as a die cut heart from the Horizon ephemera pack.
I used my typewriter to type my journaling and cut it into strips, then added it to the left side of the page. I also added a few puffy dots. These were actually the insides of the O’s from the puffy alpha! They make the perfect little dot embellishments.
The last part of the recipe was to add a splattering of charms, but since I’m in a traveler’s notebook, I didn’t want to add that much bulk to my page. Instead, I created a little charm book mark for my notebook with some ribbon from my stash. I tied one of the Dear Lizzy charms from the April Embellishment Kit to one end of the ribbon, then used washi tape to adhere the other end to the back of the book.
And that’s my finished TN spread all done! I hope you’ll try using the sketch in a traveler’s notebook insert. It was a lot of fun to adapt the page to fit this smaller format! Thanks for stopping by!
