Using cut files in a different way | Vicki Parker

Hi friends, it’s Vicki here today and I wanted to share a layout I’ve made using cut files in a different way. I have used one of the spiral flowers from the April subscriber cut files, but I’ve enlarged it to fill a whole page so that I can use it as a background rather than use it as a flower. I’ve also used the April 2019 kits.

I started by cutting the shape on my silhouette from the Horizon collection paper #3, the one with the sunburst. I’ve wanted to use this since I first saw it, so I was excited to get started, but nervous my silhouette would ruin it! There was no need, it cut perfectly and I was super excited with how it turned out. I placed the cut file on the page and lightly stuck it down before sewing around the spiral with my sewing machine and then ruffling up the edges.

I used a small amount of the Lindy’s Stamp Gang Magicals from the April Color Kit mixed with water and put splatters in three colours in different segments, so the pink over the pinks, peach over the oranges and blue over the blues, masking as I went.

I then layered my photo with some pocket life cards, vellum and a die cut before mounting on foam and surrounding it with embellishments from the Horizon collection in coordinating colours to the segments. A few Hip Kit exclusive puffy stickers, some Shimelle epoxy stars and a Maggie Holmes Sunny Days charm are also included. I also cut a pocket life card that had the words ‘there are so many beautiful reasons to smile’ and used them like journalling strips.

Finally, I added my title and the layout was finished. I hope it inspires you to look at your cut files in a different way or at a different size. You can see my process video here if you want to see it coming together. Until next time….
