Hey friends, it’s Kathleen here with you again and for today the Design Team was asked to create a Product Focus project, specifically focusing on star elements. The first thing that came to my mind were the Crate Paper Hooray Thickers that are included in the January Embellishment kit because they have some really cute, sparkly silver stars in a few different sizes.

Also included in the Embellishment kit is a clear stamp set from the American Crafts Shimelle collection “Head in the Clouds“ that contains a small stamp with a star cluster, so I also grabbed this one to make sure I wouldn’t forget to use it as a finishing touch on my layout. In the Main Kit we also got the glitter enamel shapes from the same collection and I just love how sparkly they are!

To emphasize the star theme even more, I die cut stars in a few different sizes from three of the papers that were included in the main kit and from a sheet of vellum from my stash. I picked the papers to coordinate with the colors in my photo and just realized later, that I haven’t really used this color scheme in a long time (or maybe ever?) but I really love it!!

For some added texture and dimension, I used my sewing machine to stitch a few of the die cut stars together with some silver metallic thread. I have to say that I am usually a gold girl, but since the stars from the Thickers were silver, I stuck with it and I am so happy I did! It was a nice change for me and I think that silver fits the pink, blue and black and white really well!

Before adhering the stars in a vertical line to my layout, I also used the stencil and texture paste from the January Color Kit to add even more stars to the background. I did not use any color over the texture paste because I wanted the stenciled image to be a very subtle accent.

Since I didn’t want to add my journaling directly to the layout (because there just wasn’t a really good place for it), I used the glassine bag that the badges in the Embellishment Kit came in, stuck it behind the photo and then slid in a tag from my stash.

For some final touches I used a few more embellishments, like the Hooray piece for my title or the party hat in matching colors. For the silver splatters I used a watercolor from my stash.
