Embellishing with the PL Kit | Jill

You don’t have to be a pocket-page scrapbooker in order to get a lot of crafty mileage out of each month’s Hip Kit Club Project Life kit. With a little creativity, an eye for detail, and a handy pair of scissors, you can render your PL kit into fun and colorful embellishments for a 12×12 layout.

This page documents the first few weeks of my summer break. As much as I love spending my days with my students during the school year, it isn’t until summer begins that I can truly savor simple pleasures and attend to some of the simple tasks that are difficult to get done during hectic work weeks. I wanted everything about this page to capture that sweet summer vibe, from the photos to the embellishments.

To create the blue-sky background, I took a sheet of Bazzill Ocean Breeze cardstock from the June cardstock kit and added drops of white acrylic paint in different areas. Over each of those drops, I added one spritz of Shimmerz Frost Bit Vibez Mist from the June color kit. Using a paintbrush, I smoothed the paint and mist over the cardstock, adding a bit more here and there to even out the color.

As the background dried, I went through the June Project Life kit and hand-cut shapes from the PL cards and the Pretty Little Studio tags, and then stitched a garland by running them piece by piece through a sewing machine.

Once the background dried, I layered the photo strips at slight angles (for a laid-back touch), and then added the page title, which features a modified “Simple and Sweet” sentiment and trimmed individual letters from a sheet of Pinkfresh Studio puffy stickers.

I then surrounded the photos with the garland and other elements from the kit, and added my handwritten journaling.

All in all, with some help from the embellishments, this page feels like summer to me.
