The lemon is having a moment in the crafting world. It’s showing up on patterned paper and on embellishments — and in the March and April kits from Hip Kit Club.
Some scrapbooking trends can be a challenge to get on board with, making one wonder, “How am I supposed to use that?” Not so with the dynamic lemon — it might seem destined to leave you pursing your lips and cringing, but depending on how it is approached, it can become habit-forming!
Yep, we know all about lemons being habit-forming at my house:
To create this layout, I began by spattering some white cardstock with watercolors (care of the March 2018 Color Kit) — just dip a brush in watered-down paint and flick and drip to your heart’s content. I used lemon-yellow and leaf-green hues, with a hint of blue (to match my husband’s shirt in the photos that I planned to use). With the leftover paint, I modified the journaling squares, cut from one of the March Project Life Kit cards.
Enter the lemons! While waiting for the background to dry, I fussy-cut some lemons and leaves from a sheet of Crate Paper Flourish “Ponderosa” patterned paper from the March 2018 Main Kit.
On to the actual page assembly: I placed the three photos on the page horizontally, at different angles, backing the focal photo with a tag. I added a few more Project Life cards below the photos. I built the rest of the layout around these foundational layers, working in the fussy-cut pieces over and under the photos and journaling squares.
As the layout mentions, my husband loves lemons for their sour taste, but I hope I’ve convinced you that lemons can be pretty sweet, too!
