Mixed Media Monday | Kim, Lorilei & Terhi

Hello lovely Hip Kit Club friends! Today for our Mixed Media Monday post, we have a fabulous line up of gorgeous mixed media projects to share with you. I hope you find them inspiring enough to grab some supplies & start playing.

Kim

Let me get the ball rolling by sharing my project using the fantastic October kits.

My mixed media technique is a great one to fall back on if you are looking for something simple & yet amazing! I created some gorgeous texture paste leaves using a ‘stencil’ made from the leftover cardstock sheet from my die cut leaves from last weeks project.

To get just the right shade of pink, I used texture paste, Mango Tango & a hint of Old Yeller for warmth. Then using an art mat I made a nice puddle of “Shimmerz – Old Yeller Inklings Shimmering Watercolor” and flicked paint onto the page with a brush for some gorgeous golden splatter. I love the warmth of the pinks & gold together…those shades will really make the mint green pop off the page.

The large Dear Lizzy chipboard sentiment also received a makeover coordinating the paint colors & splatters to match the colors of the page using an ombre blending technique. The Gold & Pink Shimmerz paints came as part of the October Color 2017 kits.

My x2 photos were jazzed up with layers of patterned paper & tissue for dimension. To finish off I used a scattering of Pinkfresh Studio ephemera, 3D hearts, & puffies. I love the pretty fall vibe of this page…perfect for this memory of my children from some years back.

I hope you enjoyed this idea…read on for excellent inspiration from Lorilei & Terhi.

I LOVE Mixed Media Monday!  The Color Kits that Kimberly puts together are always fun and colorful and the October 2017 Color Kit is no exception!  This month we received sheets of 12×12 Cold Pressed Watercolor paper and I was super excited to use it!  I used all 3 Shimmerz included in the kit as well, Mango Tango, Lapis Dance and Old Yeller.  I spritzed, painted and puddled the paints multiple times.  To get the bright bold colors I let the layers dry in between so they would intensify.  I added a bit of my Shimmerz Heidi Ho Blue to bring in the brighter blue from my photo!  Once the paper had dried completely I added some vertical machine stitching and some texture paste through a stencil.  I used the gorgeous Pinkfresh Studio Escape the Ordinary Ephemera from the Oct. 2017 Main Hip Kit and the Pinkfresh Studio Escape the Ordinary Studio Puffs from the Oct. 2017 Embellishment Kit to decorate the page!

I absolutely love how the colors puddle and mix together on the watercolor paper!

Terhi

Hey! Terhi here too, last but not least as I have this layout with a process video for you to watch! I, too, used October kits to create this blueish layout with some fun mixed media techniques.

Right now I find techniques including both cutfiles and mixed media the most fun. Using cutfiles takes scrapbooking to whole new level and including mixed media to layouts makes them pop even more. So combining these two is always very exciting. For this layout I used Hip Kit Club exclusive cutfiles, and mixed media products from October Color kit.
Even though the mixed media on this layout is only on top of the leaves, it really makes a difference. Take a look for the process video to see how I created those beautiful drops and other details.

Hope you feel inspired!
Terhi xx
