Mixed Media Monday with Missy | Tarrah | Bea

Hey, Hip Kit Fans!  It’s Mixed Media Monday, and we have three beautiful projects full of inspiration to share with you.  Missy, Tarrah and Bea are here to show you some fun ways to incorporate the 2017 October Color Kit into your layouts.  Prepare to be dazzled!

Missy

Hey, friends!  Missy here, and I’m excited to be back for Mixed Media Monday.  I used the 2017 October Hip Kits for this page, and I just love how it turned out.  I wanted to focus on mainly the pinks in the kits, but I eventually wound up adding in some mint, yellow and gold.  Color schemes evolve as you go, and sometimes the end result is completely different than how you envisioned.  And that is okay!  I used the beautiful pink and white diagonal striped Jen Hadfield paper from the Main Kit as my background and added a lot of Shimmerz from the Color Kit to the background.  First, I smudged lots of white acrylic paint and gesso onto the background to prime the paper.  I used the Mango Tango Vibez and the Old Yeller Inklingz as well as a few other colors from previous Color Kits.  I used some plastic packaging and a palette knife to spread and smear the paint.

Here you can see the different color variations.  I fussy cut a lot of flowers from another Jen Hadfield paper and used them around the page.  That fun leafy wreath cut file should be available soon on the HKC website.  It was designed by Tehri.  I used some of the exclusive wood veneer leaves and the Pretty Little Studio alpha stickers from the Project Life Kit here paired with the gorgeous gold Thickers from the Embellishment Kit.  The “about us” was fussy cut from a Project Life card.

I love the matte look of these gold Thickers.  Under my photos, I added a Project Life card and a Pinkfresh Studio striped tag that I cut in half. Those tags are in the Embellishment Kit.   I used the other half above the other photo.  My journaling fit nicely right under the title.  After I made the title, I needed some splashes of that deeper blue color, so I mixed up some acrylic paint and a bit of aqua Shimmerz and splattered some around the page.

To add dimension behind my photos, I added some adhesive foam.  It makes such a difference and really gives the layout some life.  The flowers just seem to jump right off the page.

I used some of the One Canoe Two enamel shapes around the page as well.  I tore off this gold “XO” from a Pinkfresh Studio tag.

Here’s one more close-up of the top area.  I couldn’t resist using a few of these gorgeous Pinkfresh Studio black & white butterflies!  They were perfect for this page.

I hope this gives you some inspiration and fun ideas to try on your next page.  Don’t be afraid to fussy cut images from patterned paper or use Project Life cards in a way other than for Project Life.  Get creative!  You can check out my process video if you’d like to see how I created this.

Thanks for stopping by, and have a great week!

Tarrah

Hi everyone! It’s Tarrah here, I am excited to be joining Missy and Bea for Mixed Media Monday here on the Hip Kit Club blog! Not only is it Mixed Media Monday but we are also celebrating and creating projects for being Grateful and Thankful all this week!

Mixed media is not my strongest point when creating however when I get the chance ( like an assignment) I LOVE to give it a try!  Have you ever tried something way out of your comfort zone? I urge you to give it a go!

For my layout this week, I am grateful for this little girl, right here (and her younger sister too!) I have 2 beautiful nieces who I  ADORE!!! They sadly live in England but we get to see each other on Skype and blow kisses and give virtual hugs all the time! To add some mixed media, I started out by using a sheet of the awesome watercolour paper/cardstock included in the October 2017 colour kit! I loved that I did not have to ‘prime’ the cardstock first so I just went ahead and added some of the Shimmerz colours from the colour kit using the packaging technique and also by dropping splats of colour too. I wanted to use that amazing floral cut file designed by Jessica, I cut it out of regular white cardstock and then added some watercolouring to the flowers and leaves before I adhered it the background. Those Dear Lizzy oversized chipboard words included in the October 2017 embellishment kit have been a massive hit with everyone on the Hip Kit design team this month! We all LOVE them so you may have seen them pop up on lots of our layouts! We would love to see how you have used them too! I added lots of dimension on this layout so it gave me the opportunity to add some gold thread underneath some of the layers.I used lots of the Pinkfresh Studio Escape the Ordinary products from the October 2017 Hip Kits to embellish my layout and that floral spray below my photo was fussy cut from one of the October 2017 exclusive Project Life cards from the Project Life kit…I love how it matches the colours in the photo perfectly!Thank you so much for stopping by the Hip Kit Club blog for Mixed Media Monday! Scroll down to see Bea’s gorgeous project next up!

Happy creating!

Bea

Hello Hip Kits fans! It’s BEA here and I’m so excited to show you my first scrapbook layout made with the gorgeous October 2017 kits. It all about Thanksgiving on the blog this week, and I wanted to use up all the tiny Pinkfresh Studio stars to represent the many things I’m grateful for.

Thanksgiving_HKC

To start my layout I added a coat with white gesso to the yellow cardstock and painted splatters with watercolor all around the page. The colorful splashes reminded me of the colorful trees in autumn. I wanted to use Terhi’s pretty wrath cut file, I cut it out of the blue Pinkfresh Studio patterned paper, it fits perfectly with my blue coat in the photo.

Thanksgiving-4

I embellished my page using some ephemera pieces and cradstock stickers. I’m always loving the happy sentiments and phrases from the Pinkfresh Studio ephemera pack, they are so appropriate for documenting the everyday moments. I created two clusters next to my photo using the sticker leaves, puffy sticker branches, and layered heart embellishment.

Thanksgiving-3

I hope you like my first layout made with the October kits. I can’t wait to share more with you. The new kits always inspire me and have good effect on my moyo.
