  1. Tanya’s TN Spread

sketch6Oct

I love making traveler’s notebook spreads and who says a sketch has to be for a 12×12 layout only 😉 of course they can be used as a starting off point for a TN spread! I took inspiration from the mixed media background and splattered Shimmerz mist across my page using the Pretty In Pink Coloringz which came in the August 2017 Color add-on.  TN’s are such a lot of fun and allow me to play with supplies in a smaller scale; I also adore ‘tip-ins’. If you’re not familiar with a tip-in it’s where you take a project life card or any piece of paper of a smaller size than your page and using washi tape you secure the one edge so that it forms a flap. I used the gorgeous Simple Stories heart washi that came in the August 2017 Embellishment add-on. For my tip-ins I used several of the project life cards that came in the August 2017 PL add-on.

You can secure anything this way; ephemera, photographs, journaling spots, really the only limitation is your imagination 🙂 I very often use tip-ins as a way to add more to the page or to document my story. Think of it as almost doubling the amount of space you have to scrapbook or journal.

My spread is about my daughter’s end of school dance and the Maggie Holmes banners (the Carousel sticky notes) just added that perfect party vibe again these came in the August 2017 PL add-on.

I have loved using the August 2017 Hip Kit Club kits, they were so fun to work with and I’m pleased to say I used almost every last scrap up! I hope my TN spread inspires you to use a sketch in your traveler’s notebook and add lots of tip-ins! 🙂

Be sure to check out Corrie’s interpretation below!

We’ll chat again soon 🙂

2. Corrie 12×12 Layout

Corrie here! I must say, I just LOVE Orange Gearle’s sketch. It seriously is right up my alley. So much so, that I really kept my take pretty true to the sketch! I love the splatters in the background and the stars and the smaller photos.

I started this page with gesso. I knew I wanted to use watercolor paint but I do not like the way it warps and soaks into cardstock and gesso really helps with that. I spread gesso on using an old plastic card and once that was dry, I used the paints from the May 2017 Color Kit and a fat paint brush to make color pools on my background. These color pools dry beautifully on the gesso, making darker rims that I think look very cool.

Once the background was completely dry I arranged my three photos. (This is one of my dogs. She loves to dock dive and is really good at it.) I cut out the stars from one of the Paige Evans papers from the September 2017 Main Kit and tucked those around the photos.

Then I added wood veneer stars, star stickers and Thicker stars from the main kit and the September 2017 Embellishment Kit around the larger stars.

Last, I added a few more details like the corner stickers from the September 2017 Project Life Kit, “you’re a champ” sticker and a bit of journaling to complete my page. I love how it turned out, like water and superstars!

I love working with the September 2017 Hip Kits! They are just so much fun. And playing along with the sketch makes it even better! I hope we inspired you to play along!

Thanks for stopping by!
