Building a Layered Travelers Notebook Spread
Marinette kept this travelers notebook spread feeling warm and spontaneous by layering torn papers across both pages instead of trimming everything with a paper cutter. The August 2017 Hip Kit gave her those Maggie Holmes Carousel pieces and the exclusive ice cream thickers that she worked into a "Happiness" themed spread. The whole thing reads like a scrapbook page that just happens to live inside a notebook.

This time I decided to tear some of them to add some extra texture and dimension. Then I added some little embellishments like the HKC exclusive thickers (IC for Ice Cream) as well as some pieces of the Maggie Holmes Carousel Ephemera and Cirque Puffy Stickers and voilà! That’s it 😉

How Marinette Built This Spread
- Tear your patterned papers instead of cutting them for a travelers notebook. The rough edges add texture and make layered pages feel less rigid in the small format.
- Work across both pages of a spread as one continuous design. Marinette ran her paper layers from left to right so the two pages feel like a single, unified layout.
- Use exclusive kit thickers or chipboard letters as your focal title piece. The dimensional letters pop against flat layers of torn paper.
- Puffy stickers and ephemera from a coordinated kit take the guesswork out of embellishing. Everything matches because it was curated to work together.
- Keep your notebook inserts dedicated to different purposes – one for everyday memory keeping, one for specific events. It makes flipping through later more satisfying.
