Hello everybody! Jennifer here with another layout featuring the May Hip Kits. My challenge this week was to be creative with my journaling. I decided on doing something interactive but I didn’t just want to put my journaling on a hidden tag. So I took some time thinking about it until the little pinwheel in my tiny herb garden gave me an idea.
I don’t add journaling to my layouts often because I’m always afraid of messing up the page. But hidden journalin is something I can do. If I mess that up no one will ever know.
I decided on adding a pinwheel to my layout which would hide my journaling. And this decision would make this layout a bit of a longer project because my first idea did not work at all. I started with a 12×12 sheet of white cardstock and cut out shapes which I planned on backing with colorful cardstock from the May 2017 Cardstock Kit. I was planning on making the backed part movable and not the white cardstock. Unfortunately, my spinning mechanism did not work – at all.
So, in the end I cut off the excess pieces from my white cardstock, glued the colorful cardstock on another white sheet and made the white pinwheel spinnable. For that I poked a hole through all my layers and used one of the buttons from the May 2017 Embellishment Kit to add some twine as an anchor for my pinwheel. For some added texture I hand stitched around the pinwheel.
Spinning the wheel exposes my journaling like this:
But I didn’t want to leave the rest of wheels bare so I used both the Dear Lizzy puffy stickers and the Hip Kit Exclusive puffy stickers from the Embellishment and the May 2017 Main Kit to decorate my page.
I tried color coordinating the stickers to the cardstock I used which worked really well. Kimberly does such a great job coordinating these kits – everything just fits together seamlessly.
I also included some chipboard stickers from the Maggie Holmes set which is included in the Embellishment Kit and some Simple Stories Enamel Dots from the Main Kit.
Even though this layout took me about two weeks to complete (I was this close to just rip it apart) I love how colorful and fun this turned out.
Thanks for stopping by and I will see you next week with a new project.
xoxo Jennifer
