Maximising Patterns by Kim Watson

Happy Monday, friends! Kim here to share a layout using the wonderful September 2016 main kit. Today my design challenge is maximising patterned papers. To do that I started by only using patterned paper on this page.

Hello Life by Kim Watson

I cut apart the journal cards from the beautiful Maggie Holmes Design patterned paper, Moments, and created a grid design. I used the Kate paper as my background. Isn’t this collection beautiful?

I layered several layers of different patterns behind each journal card. Each card cluster was decorated with ephemera, chipboard elements from the Gather collection, Simple Stories adhesive brads & Pink Fresh wood clips. By selecting simple patterns I made sure none overpowered the other. The soft shades compliment each other, adding texture not busy-ness.

I used the journal cards to help tell my story. Each card includes a typed thought I want to share with my children, something I have personally experienced that I know will give them direction in their lives.

When working with the main kit alone, one can really stretch the kit by using dies like I did. I cut leaves, titles & shapes that really helped make my page fuller & more interesting with great success.

Thanks for joining me today!
