Final projects from August GDT- Claudia Van Rooijen

Hello everyone! Claudia here and today I’m sharing my final GDT layout today that I created using the amazing August 2016 Kits.

Joey Love by Claudia Van Rooijen

Ever since I first got the kits I had an idea to cut hearts out of patterned paper and I finally got around to doing that for this layout. I used the heart shaped wood veneers from the Paige Evans/Pink Paislee Take Me Away collection which came in the Project Life Kit this month for tracing.

I selected some papers from the Main Kit and Paper Kit that I thought would match nicely but I also pulled in some of the gorgeous journaling cards designed by Kim Watson from this month’s Project Life Kit. I don’t do Project Life so I try to think of other ways to use these. After I was done with the tracing and cutting, I pulled out my small heart punch and punched out a few hearts out of the scrap pieces of paper and placed them on my layout. I used the mirror stickers from the Project Life Kit to spell out the name of my cat; Joey. There’s not a lot of letters available but I thought it would be nice to spell out his name (good thing it’s a short one haha).

I also added a bunch of puffy stickers from the Crate Paper Cute Girl collection which came in the Embellishment Kit. I ‘decorated’ some of the hearts by adding those black clear stickers from that same kit to make them look a little more interesting and add more black to the layout.

I finally used that wooden floral piece that came in the Main Kit – I had been saving it for the perfect project and I thought it would look quite nice on this layout. I added some enamel dots from the Project Life Kit to add some extra pops of color.

For my last project I wanted to do some sort of mini ‘album’. I had these photos that I thought would be cute to document.

I selected 3 pieces of patterned paper from the Main Kit and Paper Kitto use and cut them out. The size is about 10x15cm but of course you can make it bigger or smaller if that’s what you would prefer. Then I punched a hole at the top of each piece using a tiny hole punch. I got a piece of twine to put through the whole and to tie the pieces of paper together. I’m sure there’s lots of other ways to bind them together, but twine is all I had available to me.

For my title on the front I used those scripted words from the Dear Lizzy Saturday collection that came in the Main Kit. I loved the look of them but had been struggling in trying to make them work on my layouts but it was perfect for the cover.

I then decorated each piece of paper that had a photo on it and used a lot of the puffy stickers from the Crate Paper Cute Girl collection from the Embellishment Kit – I think it’s obvious at this point that this was probably my favorite item in the kits this month – I used almost all of them.

This is my last post here on the blog so I want to take a moment to thank Kim / Kimberly for having me as a guest designer this month. I had an amazing time and truly loved creating with these kits. I hope that you enjoyed seeing the projects I created and that I was able to inspire you in some way. Thank you so much for joining me today, I hope you will have a wonderful day! 🙂
