Fussy cutting & the April Kits (+bonus card) | Raquel Bowman

Hey everyone, Raquel here sharing my first layout using the April kits. I was so excited to receive this months kits as I just loved the combination of colours and embellishments within it. As soon as I received the kits I filmed an unboxing video which you can find here.

Anyways, I had loved this photo and moment and was waiting on the perfect papers and embellishments to document with it. The Maggie Holmes Bloom collection paper was just perfect. I’m not a fussy cutter but this paper was just calling to be fussy cut and I knew I wanted to create a flutter effect along my page.

Here is the page I created:

I typed the journaling on my typewriter, it was really important to me that I documented this moment so I wrote a little more than usual.

The photo was matted with the grey patterned paper in the kit and adhered to the page with foam to add some dimension. extraspecial-raquel-6

I wanted to flow the butterflies from one side of the page to the other on a diagonal. I placed one to the left of the photo and a couple to the right. To the right of the photo I created a small cluster as you can see below. It contains one of the Shimelle word stickers, a Pink Fresh rubber sticker, the Simple Stories veneer and some My Minds Eye enamel dots.

The cute Heidi Swapp paper clip really finished off the cluster to the right, I love the way it looks clipped on top of the butterfly. I also embossed the ‘xoxo’ veneer with some gold embossing powder from my stash to continue the gold theme I had complimenting the layout. extraspecial-raquel-3

I found the perfect title from the Pinkfresh Studio acetate pack which had a pink tint to it that I thought looked beautiful and worked well with the tones on the paper. I adhered it to the page by machine stitching it. I also used my favourite medium Whipped Spackle to add texture to the page with the butterfly stencil from the colour kit. See those cute little gold flowers? They are from the Amy Tan rub on pack! So cute!

To add a bit of extra detail to those fussy cut butterflies I added some machine stitching down the centre. I adhered them to the page down the centre so I could fold in their wings and give them some pop. extraspecial-raquel-1

I also have an extra little project to share with you today. I decided to whip up a quick little card and envelope using my scraps and some card stock from the card stock kit.

For the card I used three fussy cut butterflies and some of the scraps of patterned paper to create some layers on the background. I then added some bundled pink thread and the ‘celebrate’ wood veneer from the My Minds Eye pack to the card. The card was pretty simple to make but looks super cute.

I have a We R Memory Keepers envelope punch board in my stash and have recently rediscovered it. I used the Butter card stock in the card stock add on to create the envelope. I love the pop of yellow that ties in well with the butterfly on the card. extraspecial-card and envelope-2

You can see the process for how I created this layout and card below, enjoy!

Thanks for visiting the blog today! I hope my layout and card have inspired you to get creating.
