What matters most | Raquel Bowman

Hey everyone, Raquel here with my latest layout using the jam packed March kits. What I love so much about these kits is how many different colour combinations for layouts that you can make. For this one I stuck to the colour palette of the Elle’s Studio Little Moments ephemera pack.

This layout is documenting my love of little moments that I capture with the kiddies. The ones where they are playing beautifully, and enjoying themselves. On this particular day it was playing in a fort made from a blanket and our clotheshorse. Two items as simple as that provided them with so much imaginary play fun and had them amused for a good hour. In kiddies terms, that is a long time!

I chose to work in a vertical design as I really wanted to showcase all the beautiful ephemera in the Elle’s Studio pack. The soft colour palette with pops of black are just so striking and beautiful and all the sentiments on them were perfect for this layout. I also loved that this collection and pack had pops of yellow, which is a colour I am loving to incorporate into my pages lately.

The grey paper on this layout is from the Pinkfresh Studio Felicity Collection. It had a vertical strip of colours, but I simply cut those off so you could only see the grey. The grey in that paper matched the grey in the ephemera beautifully.

I added some crochet thread to the top of the tags on the layout. I love the thickness of the crochet thread as it is not too heavy for those delicate tags. The cluster of ephemera to the bottom of the photo is adhered with both double sided tape and some on foam adhesive to add dimension. I finished this scattering of embellishments with a couple of the sequin puffy stickers and the date stamped in a grey ink.

I work in three’s a lot when I am creating layouts, three groupings of one colour, three small embellishments in a cluster, three clusters on one page etc. On this page loved the pop of yellow brought to the layout in the yellow file tab, yellow label and that spot of yellow in the floral tag at the bottom. The ‘so much fun’ on the file tab is from the Pinkfresh Studio word stickers pack.

The contrast of the black on this page worked really well. This was achieved not only in the embellishments from the ephemera pack, but also through the black and white photo, especially the chevron rug which really stands out. In the cluster of embellishments at the top of the photo, most are layered or arranged to fill that vertical design. The ‘love this’ circle was applied to the page with a foam dot to give it a little dimension.

When creating the page I was trying to figure out a layout design where I could incorporate quite a bit of journaling. I decided to chunk it in a box and apply it vertically to the page beside the photo. This layout for me was all about telling this story, so it was really important that I worked the journalling into the layout design.
