A Spring Story | Missy Whidden

Happy Thursday, friends!  Missy back with you, and I have another Springy layout to share using the 2016 March Hip Kits!  I used one of Nicole’s flower cut files from this month’s set, and I enlarged the flower and then duplicated it in several different sizes.  I liked the idea of nesting the flowers and having my photo right in the middle.  I wound up framing the photo with the smallest flower cut, and I love how it turned out!  I used all exclusive papers for this, which are all included in the Main Kit and Paper Kit.  I coated the background paper with a lot of white gesso and white acrylic paint.  I used several Shimmerz products including the yellow Aqua Huez from this month’s Color Kit as well as a few products from past Color Kits.  I got really messy and artsy with the paints, and I love how it looks with the flowers on top of it!

I used lots of thread from my stash to add extra pops of color and texture around the photo.  I also used several of the Basic Grey flowers from the Embellishment Kit as well as some of the puffy sequin stickers and wood veneer hearts from Pinkfresh Studio.  And I did run the background through my sewing machine…very carefully!  I was impressed with how I was able to stitch around those petals 🙂
A Spring Story2
Aren’t those Basic Grey flowers so bright and pretty?  They are perfect for a Spring layout.  I love the bright green leaves.  They are a perfect match to the bright green Thickers!
A Spring Story3
I paired up the green Thickers with the silver glitter Pinkfresh Studio script words from the Embellishment Kit to create my title.  I love the bright pop of color from that green!

Here’s one more close-up of the cut file and mixed media work.  I love this royal blue color.  I’m so glad it’s becoming popular in newer release these days…it’s just so pretty!

If you’d like to see how I created this background and built this layout, be sure to check out my process video.  I hope you draw some inspiration from it!

Thanks so much for stopping by!
