January 2013 Hip Kit… 3 fabulous

Happy Tuesday!!!

It is Kimberly here with you today and I have a couple of projects that were created by our awesome Cindy Stevens using our January 2013 Hip Kit.  I love all of the different patterned papers and embellishments in our January kit, and I love how she combined them as she designed her projects this month.

Cindy used a few photos of her camera on this layout.  Even though, there isn’t an actual photo of “her” on the page – the theme is really personal and says so much about who she is.  I know I say this every month… but I am definitely going to do a LO about myself soon.  Cindy you have inspired me!!!  😀I love the papers that Cindy layered underneath her photos.  The neutrals create a nice foundation.  The aqua along with a bit of the floral paper adds a nice pop of color without taking over her page.  I know I have said it before… but I adore the gold polka dot vellum from our January Embellishment Add-On Kit.  The gold is a great touch.

The banner on this page was created with strips of the Farm Girl Washi Tape from our January Embellishment Add-On Kit. She folded each strip in half around a piece of string. Since washi tape is slightly transparent, you have to be careful to match your stripes up when fold the tape around the string.

Afterwards, she cut notches out of some of the flags and the corners off of others to make each piece a little bit different.
Cindy used her Cricut to cut the bird and branch.  Cutting the same shape different colors allowed her to layer them together – which gave them a bit of dimension.  Using small subtle patterned papers rather than cardstock made this sweet embellishment more interesting.

How many valentine’s cards to you have scattered throughout your house?  I know that when my girls were younger… they loved the valentines cards that they got from their friends and classmates.  I stored them in ziplock bags in their closets.  Over the years… each girl ended up with several bags of cards.  Cindy has a fabulous solution for this issue!!!  She used our January Hip Kit to create a little pocket page to store all of the valentines cards that her son received at school.  So cute!!!

Using ribbon along the top of the pocket… will reinforce the edges of the pocket so that it won’t tear so easily.  This trick is both functional, but it also adds a nice little detail to the project.
