October 2012 Hip Kit… Two sweet fall cards

Hi Everyone!

It is Kimberly here tonight! I hope you had a fabulous Thanksgiving holiday and that you were all surrounded with family and friends.  I love this time of the year…  Megan, our oldest daughter, comes home from college, and we just hang out together as a family.  Our Thanksgiving includes a combination of family, good food, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, a little football and board games.  :D  Who could possibly ask for more?

As I prepared for Thanksgiving, I created a couple of sweet cards using our October Hip Kit.  Before sending them off, I took a couple of photos of them using an app on my phone.  The colors seem to be a bit off – but I love the “Instagram” look.

This first card is a little 4”x4” card.  I love the rich woodgrain paper from the Simple Stories Take a Hike collection.  It made a nice background for my card.  I punched several circles out of scraps of patterned paper from our October kit.  I inked the edges of each circle using Frayed Burlap Distress Ink.  Since I didn’t want them glued flat – I placed a glue dot in the center of each circle and layered them together in pairs.  Then I arranged them on the woodgrain paper and machine stitched through the center of each of them.  Afterwards, I lifted up of the edges of the circles, which gave some texture and dimension to my card.  To finish it off, I added one of the Elle’s Studio Thankful Pennants, some baker’s twine and a wood veneer heart & a button (both from my stash) .  Sweet?!  Don’t you think?Thankful Card

My second card was also created with our October Hip Kit.  The combination of aqua cardstock and the Witch Hazel plaid paper was perfect for a fall card.  I added a bit of zig zag stitching along the top and bottom edges of the plaid paper to create a nice base for my card.   602574_10151103776437382_1869787603_nI used the Amy Tangerine “Hey There” stamp from our September Embellishment Add-On Kit to stamp the “little people” for my card.  Then I layered a bunch of little scraps of paper from our October Hip Kit to give detail, texture and dimension.  The brown grosgrain ribbon added just enough contrast to keep the black mini alphabet from being too bold.  To finish it off – I added some extra machine stitching and a decorative brad.  I love the way it turned out!

I hope you will try creating a few cards with some random scraps and leftovers from your Hip Kits.  Take a photo of your completed projects and share them with us on our Facebook page – we love seeing you’re the things that you make!!!  Thanks so much for visiting.  Be sure to come back tomorrow to see our next projects created with our amazing October Hip Kit.  xo Kimberly
