NOVEMBER SKETCH CHALLENGE | Morag Cutts

Hi there.  The November sketch challenge is open to all and it’s a fantastic starting point for your next layout, plus a chance to win $25 to spend in store too!

I took the key elements of the sketch – diamonds to use as the base for my layout but I also wanted to swap out the flowers for a pumpkin (as it’s autumn, I’m all about leaves and pumpkins right now).

I created a paper diamond template and used it to cut out 5 patterned papers.  I arranged these down the right hand side but before sticking down, I added some colour to the background.

In the October Color Kit there are 3 Magicals mica powders.  They are so fun to use and very easy to make custom colours.  I created a beautiful soft coral pink colour which I diluted with water and applied to the background with packaging and a large round brush. (Check out the process video below to see how).

Then I set to stitching the pumpkin.  I printed a paper template (I found an image online) and poked holes before back-stitching the design with embroidery perle thread.

Once it was all complete, I stuck it all down and then set to adding clusters of embellishments.  The pretty crochet hearts in the October Main kit add a lovely texture to the page.  I layered fussy cut leaves and mixed them in with the stunning velum leaves from the Embellishment kit. so pretty

I fussy cut flowers in the opposite corner and mixed those in with more leaves.

Finally I added a little journaling (Pocket Life Kit) and placed the title over the photo before adding those pretty pearls.

See how I mixed the Magicals and used homemade templates on our YouTube channel:
