MARCH MOODBOARD CHALLENGE | SARAH MILLERHOUSE | FEBRUARY 2023 HIP KITS

Hello! I am excited to share my new layout with you! I played along with the March Moodboard, and it is beautiful!! The Moodboard Challenge is live in the HKC Facebook group. To participate, you can create a project inspired by the moodboard below and post your project in the Moodboard Challenge thread on Facebook. There is a $25 gift card to the HKC store up for grabs for one lucky winner! All of the details for my page are below, and the link to the full process video is at the end of this post! I started this layout knowing that I wanted to incorporate the paper fans or pinwheels and the hearts from the moodboard. I started by making the paper fans in similar colors to the ones in the photo above. I chose three different patterned papers from the February Main Kit and cut strips of paper. For the larger paper fan on my layout, I cut a strip at 1.75 in. by 12 in. I scored folding lines at .25 inches all the way along the strip and then accordion folded it. I added a little adhesive to both ends and shaped it into a circle. I repeated this process with three different widths of strips (1.25 in., 1 in., and .75 in.).

I then cut two sets of hearts using the new Nested Hearts Metal Die. I chose 3 sizes, skipping a size in between each heart, so that more of the patterned paper shows on each one. I then stacked them up, centering them, and added adhesive just down the center of each heart. I knew I wanted to bend them up to add dimension to the final layout.

On the background, I used the “It’s a Girl” ink from the February Color Kit and an ink blending tool to add some color behind the area where my hearts sit. I also layered on the Inklingz – Naughty or Nice from the December 2022 Color Kit. Across the center of the layout, I added Shimmerz – Slow Ocean from the January Color Kit to give a subtle aqua shade that coordinates with the patterned paper.

Once I had the placement of the hearts and paper fans, I added hand-stitching to attach the hearts to the layout. I did this using both a straight stitch and added French knot stitches to each hole. I love the texture this adds to the layout.

Once that was ready, I added my photo to the center of the layout. I then added lots of embellishments to the layout using puffy hearts, ephemera, and journaling cards from the February Hip Kits and shiny bits and sequins from my stash. I also added the acrylic title piece “True Love” from the Embellishment Kit just below my photo.

I finished the layout by adding Nuvo drops from the November Color Kit and Liquid Pearls from my stash. I had so much playing along with the moodboard, and I hope you will join in, too!

I have all the details in the YouTube process video linked below.
