TECHNIQUE FOCUS – TONE ON TONE | SARAH MILLERHOUSE | JANUARY 2023 HIP KITS

Hi Scrappy Friends! I’m excited to share my new layout using a tone on tone technique! My mixed media, patterned papers cut with border punches, and all the embellishments are clustered together using various shades of the same colors! I loved working with all the exclusives in the January Hip Kits, along with some beautiful Hip Kit dies, to create this layout. I hope you are inspired and will share your projects made using these beautiful kits! I have details below and a link to the full process video at the end. Have a creative day

For this layout, I started by folding all of the small envelopes found in the January Hip Kits. I choose the envelopes that worked best in rainbow order. I used patterned papers from the January Main Kit and Project Life Kit to create small strips using a border punch from WeRMemoryKeepers. This strips acting as a resting place for the envelopes.

Once I knew where the envelopes would go, I used mixed media from the January Color Kit and past Color Kits to coordinate a small bit of color that pokes out underneath and behind the strips of paper.

From there, I used embellishments from the January Kits to layer embalmments using a tone-on-tone technique. This just means that I used bits and pieces using different shades of the same color to cluster together.

By using craft foam in between the layers and darker and lighter shades of the same color, I was able to create dimension and visual interest on the layout.

I used the embellishment sheets from the Project Life Kit, along with metal dies from January to cut them out. This made the process super simple and gave me lots of choices for embellishments.

I also added dimension by using puffy stickers and chipboard pieces from the January Kits to layer on the clusters.

I loved treating each new color as its own vignette to add sweet thoughts and details to the layout. The phrases found on the ephemera pieces and project life embellishments were perfectly coordinated to the memories I was scrapping!

I have a full process video linked below! I give more tips and tricks to perfect the look in the process video. Have a beautiful day!
