Hey everyone! Suzanne here, on this fine Mixed-Media Monday, to share with you my very first layout using our August Hip Kits! I am a huge fan of using mixed-media on almost ALL of my layouts, so I was a little giddy to participate in today’s designer prompt!
This month’s color kit included three ink pads from Catherine Pooler. I wanted to create a background color that matched the peachy/apricot tones seen throughout the embellishments and papers in the kits.
I began by adding the pink and yellow inks onto a piece of packaging plastic-allowing them to mix by adding water.
Using the smooshing technique, I simply added the mixed ink colors onto my white cardstock. Here you can see that the peachy color is trying to come through, so I continued to dilute the inks by adding water until I was happy with the results. I dried the background half-way with a heating tool and blotted the remaining moisture with paper towels. Just a note-these are dye inks and very colorfast, therefore, this particular technique wouldn’t work if you added the inks directly to your unprimed cardstock.
I had a little of the ink mixture leftover from the background so I decided to add the remaining color to these very fun fabric resist border stickers! They easily take color, and a little goes a long way. I let the strip air-dry because of the adhesive on the back.
All of the embellishments work perfectly with the papers! I love the Say it in Crystals from Prima. I added a bit of tulle and sewing to the background as well. The stripes behind the photo come from one of the patterned papers included in the Main Kit. I cut the strips that matched my layout and sewed them in place!
I hope I’ve inspired you today to get those hands messy and create! Thank you for stopping by!
