PRODUCT FOCUS WEDNESDAY | BY MELISSA VINING

Hi everyone!! Its Melissa here and I’m so happy to be back with you today sharing another layout made with the gorgeous January 2021 Hip Kits featuring the exclusive Dream Big collection.  The products I focussed on are Chipboard, Puffy Stickers and the Fringe Pieces. I used products from the Main Kit, Embellishment Kit, Pocket Life Kit, and the Cardstock Kit.

I decided to create a hand bag to document a fun selfie taken with my girls.  I had been tagged on Instagram for an “8 Things”Instastory post and my cheeky girls decided to pull faces!! I love this photo so much and wanted to use it to document “Girl Time” which is what we call the time when we are hanging out without my husband and son!

I used a ruler and pencil to create the handbag, and then rounded the edges of my corners. I am by no means an artist, but by keeping the shapes simple I was able to create this cute paper pieced bag.   I added hand stitching  for extra detail, and embellished with gorgeous bits and pieces from the kit.  My handbag design was totally inspired by the fringe piece which I used on the bottom of the front flap.

I just had to make a little pocket on the front of the bag, and this was totally inspired by the adorable little chipboard zip! I love it when an embellishment inspires me!!

I placed the bag on a shelf made from the black and white patterned paper.  This enabled me to add other fun girly items that were predominantly from the chipboard packs.  I especially loved using the high heeled shoes, lipstick and stack of tea cups! So adorable!!

The floral die cuts were perfect for extra embellishment around my photo and on the bag.

I used the super fun puffy purple letter stickers for my title, and embellished with a puffy speech bubble sticker, a puffy heart sticker and a die cut flower.  I had a lot to say, and I loved using the chipboard phrase to start my journalling.  I don’t particularly love my handwriting, but its a part of me and I think it’ll be important in years to come!

Here is another look at my final layout, its so cute and I love that this kit encourages positivity with the darling phrases and embellishments!! Paper piecing doesn’t have to be complicated, and you can create easily without an electronic cutting machine. The handle of the bag isn’t perfect, but it doesn’t bother me.  Embrace the imperfection of hand-cutting, and if in doubt add embellishments!!

I hope I’ve inspired you to focus on some of the some of the gorgeous products in your kit. I often find that limiting my supplies helps me in making my decision on what to use.

Have an awesome rest of your week

Melissa xx
