Mixed Media Monday | Dream Big | Vicki Parker

Hi everyone, it’s Vicki here today to share my layout for mixed media Monday using the January 2020 kits and if you’re worried about making a mess of your layout with mixed media, then this one is for you!

I started with five of the rolled flowers from the January Colour Kit – they are cut from watercolour paper, so adding paint to them is easy. I used some Shimmerz paints – Precious Posey from the January kit and Naughty or Nice from the December kit and painted the flowers. I then used some Lindy’s sprays from older kits in pink and purple to add some additional colour. I rolled them loosely because I find they fit in my album better that way.

To build my layout, I used an exclusive heart border cut file and kept back some of the hearts which I gave the same treatment as the flowers. I then backed the cut file with the fringed border strips which are in the Embellishment Kit. I trimmed them off around the edges of the cut file and ruffled up the fringes inside the hearts. It gives a real watercolour effect which I loved combined with the flowers.

Before sticking the cut file down, I added some texture using plain white texture paste through the stencil that is in the Colour Kit. It gives a very subtle bit of texture on the layout which I really like.

To finish up, I added my photo layered onto some pocket life cards and surrounded with the flowers, some puffy stickers and the hearts I coloured. I also added some of the clear stickers, which look like stitching, from the Pocket Life Kit.

I finished up with my title which was a chipboard rainbow sticker that says Dream Big – it works perfectly for the photo of my dog sleeping.

I love how this came together and I think the fringing in the hearts border really look like mixed media – the look without the mess! I hope it gives you some inspiration for using those fringes and rolled flowers. Thanks so much for looking!
