Hi everyone!! It’s Melissa here, and you did read my title correctly! I’m so happy to be back with you again today to share a layout created with embellished embellishments – in other words handmade embellishment clusters. I used the gorgeous December 2020 Kits, and used items from all of them.
I made five separate embellishment clusters. I started with a single item, and then layered and arranged my embellishments. I also used the Stamp Kit and heat embossed the snow flake stamps with silver embossing powder onto vellum from the Cardstock Kit. I love how they turned out!! I intentionally made sure all five handmade embellishments were different and featured different starting items.
My next task was to use the embellishments to make a layout. I chose a winter photo of my husband and youngest daughter on a 4 wheel motor bike at his parents place one Snow Day. Although my other daughter is in the photo, the story I’m documenting is about Ava’s first time on the bike in the snow. I used two of the patterned papers with snow flakes on them as large borders to build my layout on. I machine stitched them with silver thread for extra interest and texture. I added my journalling onto the embellished ‘Activity Schedule’ piece from the Journalling Bits.
I also used one of the pockets as an embellishment, and created one main cluster with a snowflake, chipboard, silver thread nest (inspired by Missy Whidden of course) and an enamel dot. I wrote the date on the printed label on the pocket, and added more enamel dots and a puffy star. So super cute!!
I had so much fun embellishing the chipboard tab. I just had to use the mittens die cut, and added a snowflake, puffy star, enamel dot and one of the puffy phrase stickers. I used lots of dimensional adhesive on all of my embellishment clusters to ensure they weren’t flat to the page.
For my next embellishment cluster I started with the chipboard snowman, and I knew I wanted her to sit on the side of my photo. I added a fussy cut house, snowflake, chipboard washi strip, acetate scallop border and a thread nest. I added chipboard tree behind the cluster.
For my final cluster I embellished an acetate tag to place behind my photo. I used a large snowflake, floral die cut, puffy star, enamel dot and twine (from my stash). I love the mix of different types of embellishments providing lots of texture.
I added more embellishment to my layout once I had adhered the main clusters. I wouldn’t normally follow a process of creating embellishment clusters first, but I have to admit I love how it turned out, and especially how easily it came together! I’ll definitely do this again!
I made a process video which you can watch below.
Here is another look at my layout. I created my title with the silver puffy letter stickers from the Main Kit.
Take care
Melissa xx
