Hello hello! It’s Michelle here today with a new layout share for you all. My task for today’s post was to create a layout using ONLY a Main Kit and featuring a patchwork/quilting effect with machine stitching. I’ve used the July 2020 kit that features plenty of fun pattern papers and colours
Lets start with the background.. I chopped up so many of the papers from this kit into strips, which I then turned into tonnes of tiny squares to replicate a scrappy patchwork quilt. I adhered them all randomly to a white piece of cardstock with slight gaps between each then sewed through each row to create ‘quilting’ lines.
I added roughly torn white cardstock over the edges of the patchwork as it was too much colour in the background to use the whole 12×12 piece that I made, and I still wanted to add clusters of embellishments to bring it all together.
I added the photo of Leila from one of our (very few and far between) picnics in the park, to compliment the theme of the layout I wanted to create. When I think of patchwork quilts I envision fun picnic blankets made of scrap fabrics. So fun!
I fussy cut some florals from the Happy Day paper to create a cluster to the right of the photo. I tucked these under the layers of pattern papers I used behind the photo using different forms of adhesive for multiple heights of dimension.
I added a few more florals to the left of the photo to begin the diagonal flow of embellishments across the layout. Theres even a couple of sweet enamel dots from Echo Park scattered at the top
I added the title to the bottom of the layout diagonally across from the small floral cluster. I’ve used a mix font/element technique using the ‘hello’ from the Kate & Ash layered foam phrase pack, alphabet thickers and handwriting. I also added a couple more fussy cut florals to a mini cluster at the very bottom.
And heres the finished product. I really enjoyed creating this layout using the patchwork effect that I think I might try it again in a different style on future layouts.
Well friends thats all from me today, and sadly thats the last layout I’ll be sharing with you here for Hip Kit Club as my time on the Design Team has come to an end. I have loved being part of the team these past 6 months and thank you all for all the love you have expressed on everything I have shared. I cant wait to be inspired by the next group of talented scrappers and will be sure to check into the HKC group regularly to see what you all make with these amazing kits!
Thanks so much for stopping by today, and like always Happy Scrapping!
